So there's no way I'm entering the next tourney (the street one). No offense to newjak/DC, but that's just not my power level, and I'll also be burnt out from this tourney.
But I realized today that I'd be relatively excited about Iron Man level....mainly because I know so little, so it would be new territory. Or another "herald"-ish thing....but we've done that to death. I'm sure it'll roll around again in a year or two though.
I also love partners. Scoob's cool and all, but I'm talking more about the concept in general. I've had loads more fun than when it was just me...and new ideas are easier to come up with when you have two competent debators working together to strategize.
Also, in any tourney, I'd be interested to see more drafts picks...the original IM one had 4 to a team (with 16 teams), which makes for a huge challenge scouting for talent. 4-Man herald teams would likely be too much (too many power combos...it becomes unfair after a while) but it could work at most other levels.
Amalgams become problematic with more than 3 as well though....so I realize 3 is still the safest (and usually best) number.
...yeah...at least you got one so you can't cry after this week.
....
I always stayed away from IM level because I thought I "didn't know it". But I came up with a much bigger list than I expected when I was messing around today at work.
...herald-ish has been done to death. At this point I just try to see how wacky I can make combos. Most suck. Horribly. Ocassionally they're fun, but I've stopped taking this level seriously (at least after this tourney) because I've seen almost everything that can be done in one form or another, and I'm fully aware of various ways to go about drafting and/or meshing characters.
And street just never appealed to me. I'm kinda screwed without, say, Spider-Man or a select few others, and it seems like there's too few options. It can still be fun as hell, but I'm willing to admit when I don't feel like I'll be prepared.
Yah. leonidas and TheKahn won the last one (also a partner tourney). We opened up the limits a bit (Despero, Mangog, and such would've been banned last tourney) and they didn't have "themed" drafts like we did (brawler, energy, etc) but otherwise this is about the same.
Of course, technically, Evangel's tourney is the most recent...but her's was multiple power levels.
It sucks that there's essentially only 3 power levels defined clearly enough to work with in tournaments.
I suppose you could tweak the limits a bit (like we did for this tourney), but you're still looking at about the same thing. Even with the street tourney, we were loose with the definition (Spidey isn't really "street"). Heck, I think "under Carnage" was the general rule for that one.
Themed drafts and "under Thanos" was a nice twist though....different enough from the last one that it's still a lot of fun.
