How would you say it compares to SoulCalibur II? The one I have truly loved, it's of course lacking our precious Link, but other then that, how are the controllers, balance (Apprentice u alreayd mentioned) and so on?
I haven't played with all characters yet, so I can't offer a full opinion on balance, but...
I've played Raphael, Siegfried, Xianghua, Hilde, Yoda, Scheherazade, and Talim.
Yoda is overpowered in such a way that he's obviously meant to be a throw-in instead of a considered addition, all the others were decently easy to pick up and seemed pretty balanced.
The character creator doesn't seem as robust yet, but then again I've unlocked very little. I have mixed opinions about items being connected to stats, but those may disappear as I figure out what combinations work well. I very much like that you can edit canon characters' outfits.
The Apprentice is, once again, stupidly overpowered. Though I've heard that Vader is, in fact, fairly balanced.

controls are basically the same.. but the game feels a lot slower than even soul calibur 3
-if you dont like soul calibur 3.. you wont like 4.. IMO
-the only character that got changed for the better was tira.. she no longer sucks
-since you're GOING to wind up fighting starwars characters regardless.. you'd best get used to just getting raped because its apparently 'fun' for some people to play overpowered garbage characters
however, if you're a casual gamer you'll enjoy this.. blah blah blah
Just picked up the game, did some Training Mode with Kilik and Azteroth (spelling?), my two favorite characters. The controls are as fluid as they should be, but "OMG", what is up with Azteroth's voice? It's so high, he's supposed to have a deep voice, not this schoolgirl voice he have got now.
Also, I was trying to do Kilik's finisher in Training Mode. Is it impossible to achieve Finishers in Training? Do I have to unlock them first? I got rid of all three armor bars, and their HP bar was flashing red and all, but pressing all four buttons (or LB) did nothing...
They have to be guarding with an empty Soul Gauge (flashing red), and you have to do a Guard Break (or a Guard Impact) and immediately follow up with the Finisher. The real trick is learning which moves will give you a Break without flowing into a combo or extra hit.

ill get this game, likely today, but i would've been gotten it sooner if we had Vader. But i heard Vader may be playable via inevitable downloadable content on xbLive

Been playing for a while, pretty fun. Yoda seems crap though, his attacks are weak as hell, you basically have to keep attacking and bouncing around to do anything good. Yet to unlock the Apprentice, looking forward to it. Need to fight against Yoda to check how it feels.
Loving the staff weapons though, they're fun as hell to trip people over with.
I know the Apprentice is considered overpowered, but I like playing as him now. His moves look nice, his motion is very fuild I think, and he alwasy do what I want him to do. Unlike silly Kilik (my favorite) who sometime surprise even me with how he carries out the commands I tried to issue.
