You don't understand invasion, then. They invaded our airspace and land. They sought to destroy. They did it with the guise of peace. That's a rather horrible and disgusting thing to do, but it was war and that's how they sought to win it.

I've already posted why it was necesary...or at least the reasoning at the time. The reasoning is sound and cannot be readily proven wrong. The only evidence we have is in favor of the bombs being used as it accomplished exactly what it was intended to be for. Even still, estimates put the loss of military and citizen lives at a much higher level had America done the mainland invasion...not to mention the loss of American lives, which were much more important than those of the enemy.
