Bullshit. The guy ignored the whole G-Mantle thing. Real Kyo was posing as a G-Mantle according to KOF2001 story (spying on NESTS etc). KOF'99 storyline regarding Kyo is a bit messed up to say the least and I don't like the author of KOF'99 manhua for his love for big badabooms and a mancrush on Iori.
The Kyo joining team Japan in KOF2001 was weaker than normal version, and G-Mantle was around posing as real Kyo. It turns out that the encounter with Iori triggered Kyo getting mad in the end.
Though... it sounds a bit logical. Before the death fake Kyo told K' that he "is tired of all this"- probably he meant being tired of posing as a real thing?
Also from 99 storyline it turns out that fake Kyo owes his life to Whip, and that is used in the end of KOF'2002.
okay, now I'm officially confused.... so there were two Kyos in the manhua? This shit is even weirder than the Spider-Man clone saga....(which NESTS stole from. )

The real one appears to be posing as some masquerading Pierot thing aka G-Mantle, spying on NESTS (though there's probability that the Kyo we see in KOF 2000 is a real one, as he never really appears in main storyline back then).
But then again, the Kyo who went nuts had a gold cross on his black shirt, when it's supposed to be white. This conspiracy is getting more weirder by the minute.
