Fossil pokemon tend to be released in offense/defense oriented pairs. One is usually a physical attacker, while the other has better defenses and maybe some sp. atk. Tyrunt looks to be the attacker of this pair. Then the Rock type itself is also known for pretty slow defensive pokes, and a lot of Ice types are pretty bulky and slow as well.
Now, Amaura could be a special attacker based on its use of Aurora Beam, but if it is that severely hinders Refrigerate as most of the good Normal moves are physical. In that case I hope we get some new special Normal moves, otherwise the best it could get is Hyper Beam.
The absolute best case scenario for Amaura would be a fast physical attacker, and and if it got Extremespeed I would use nothing else until the end of forever. As it stands though, I don't think it will happen. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm expecting it to be a primarily defensive mon with above average special attack, that nonetheless learns some physical normal moves it will have trouble making use of due to low attack.
I want to like it, but I'm afraid of how easily it could be messed up.

Apparently Kalos region doesn't have any new Pokemon that Mega-evolve...Lame.
And the choice of the fossil Pokemon hasn't gotten any easier. If Scenario is right about how the stats will fall than Tyrunt is the way to go but I'll just wait to see what hacking the game reveals~

Yeah, seems the whole Mega forms is something that'll only be handed to certain fan-favorites, rather than to new Pokemon in general. I guess in a way it's a nod to older gen poke-fans (making their favorite Pokemon more recent or relevant again) while Gamefreak still makes their usual new critters and stuff.
Agreed, and Mewtwo in particular was in desperate need of recency/relevancy again after what happened to him in Smash. Am loving its Mega X form the more I see of it in screenshots, doing moves like Giga Impact.
Maybe there will be a "3rd" game to Pokemon X and Y called Z, and Mewtwo gets a Z form, unless they continue going the Black 2/White 2 kind of route for sequels, which I don't mind either way.
I don't think the 3D/console games count, much as I liked them until Battle Revolution or so. Still miss the amount of console Pokemon games there used to be, actually.
