Just an exaggeration, probably. Not supposed to be serious. Without it, it probably wouldn't have been the same movie.

I loved the exaggerated bleeding, it reminded me of Wednesday and Pugsley in one of the Addam's family movies when they're in a play and they chop bits off one another. So great laughing out loud

I must say, I recently watched this adaptation and I was impressed.

Still, I prefer the 1982 Broadway production with George Hearn and Angela Lansbury. Simply fantastic.

well since this thread has been brought back, here it is again. big grin

No but its loyal to the source material which is a major surprise since Burton always screws up a movie when its from proven source material and not his own stuff such as edward scissorhands and nightmare before christmas was.

Rented this last night, the art direction, make up, blood and so on was all fine but the musical aspects were just terrible for me, none of the songs were memorable. So I think I should stay away from the other musical versions too. Couldn't stand it when anyone was singing in this movie version. Cringing all the way through. Oh well.

I feel like you need to be a "theatre person" to really enjoy the musical aspect of this. unlike Rent or Chicago, the sogns aren't catchy and you don't want to go buy the CD. However, the movie in itself was just phenomenal.

I enjoyed this... I agree the musical aspects aren't as mainstream catchy, but I still enjoyed them. I don't think you have to be into theater or music to appreciate them (though I majored in theater and have been in love with musicals my whole life, so maybe I'm just proving that point here) but I do think it's a matter of taste. I liked the movie, didn't love it. Though it was okay, and worth the watch.

Smile sweeney todd

How did you find this hair-raising musical?I love the dark, sad and mysterious johnny depp. The songs (esp. Johanna) are good. The human meat pies make me sick though.

I didn't think much of it at all, I found most of the musical scenes incredibly cringeworthy. Was a disappointment for me since I'm a massive Tim Burton fan, his style was obviously there so that kept me interested at least. I know it's a musical, but I probably would have enjoyed it more as a straight film.
