Thor can also alter the power of his lightning bolts. When fighting Ego it was stated and shown that he's able to increase the power of his lightning by 10,000 fold. I don't know about you, but I consider that a bit more powerful than Superman's hv, and thats simply Thor's lightning bolts. This doesn't include the vast variety of extremely powerful abilities he posses besides the bolts.
It had him smoking, but it didn't really seem to cause much damage(because he still managed to walk through it, and swing the hammer). And considering the stakes they believed they were fighting for, I doubt that Supes was holding back much(if he was at all). That argument can actually be flipped to say that maybe Thor was holding back power on the lightning bolt.
It must have been a powerful blast to knock Superman through trees like that. And yea it's safe to say both were trying considering what was at stake. Supermans hv is off the charts and is immeasurable.

At base lv's, a bolt of lightning is hotter than the surface of the sun. Increase the power of that single bolt 10,000 fold and tell me it's power isn't off the charts.
Thats your proof of Superman's "off the charts, immeasurable" heat vision? One it was stated by a newscaster, and two it was stated his power, not his heat vision is off the charts(though she may have been speaking of his hv). Also thats by scientific means, and I'm positive the same would have been stated about the full power of Thor's lightning.
If thor lightning is that powerful then he should be lord of the heaven instead of zeus. you thor fanboys make him looked higher than skyfathers level you guys put thor on infinity level and i am a big fan of thor also but he is way too overestimated. and superman can literally put his heat vision through a computer without destroying it.
JLA/Avengers fight was ridiculous. Several reasons why:
1) Thor walks through heat-vision. WTF. He doesn't wade through blasts of energy. He absorbs them and redirects them with Mjolnir. I can think of no less than five different times he's done this. Him walking through heat vision and weakening himself was about as Plot-Induced-Stupid as you can get.
2) In the end, Superman says something awful like, "Most toughest opponent ever." Give me a break, he's been put in worse condition than that. He's been friggin killed. That line by Superman was the author's weakass attempt to throw Marvel fans a bone and undermines the credibility of the entire story.
3) The stupidest part of the fight, was Busiek's ridiculous treatment of Superman's weakness to magic. He just throws it out the frigging window and forgets about it. I don't know how DC fans can even attempt to reconcile this.
It continually amazes me how people can wholeheartedly support that Captain Marvel lightning bolts could hurt Superman pretty badly, but a full blown Mjolnir strike won't. I mean, Wonderwoman's circlet cuts Superman's throat as easily as it cuts any normal person, but Thor's hammer doesn't bash in Superman's head as easily as it would a normal person? Granted, he'd be able to heal from it, but for god's sake, the Mjolnir shot didn't even give him pause. Let me ask all of you supporters of this fight, if I threw a god damn rock mallet at your face, do you think you'd get away with just being knocked backwards? No. Your face would be a pulped mess. And I won't even broach the subject of what would happen to a person's hand if he tried to catch a rock mallet being swung down on him with his bare hand. Jebus.
I've heard of people saying, "Well only sharp magical objects can penetrate Superman's skin and a blunt magical object wouldn't draw blood..." That is the most convenient, cop-out, worthless excuse ever. Out of all the times, we've seen Superman be hurt by magic or magical objects, we've seen him: succumb to spells to their full effect, be cut by magic sharp things, burned by magic fire, immobilized by magic bonds, shocked by magic lightning...
... but getting your head bashed by a magical blunt object doesn't count...
WTF. Better yet, he fugging catches it in one hand. I've never even seen Thanos stop a Mjolnir swing, yet the one character who is weak to magic can stop it? Utter garbage.
Personally, I don't think Superman would get owned by Thor, because he has fought beings like him before. Even with his weakness to magic, Thor'd be hardpressed to win. But the JLA/Avengers fight was the worst possible rendition of a hypothetical fight that would occur between the two. I couldn't dig crap like that out of a landfill.
