Torres hasn't done much 1 on 1. He's been stopped many times by average defenders because the only thing he knows how to do is run forward and hope the defender runs away.

Let's see, who's been pulled out of his country's games because of ineffectiveness? Who's done more with less time?

What a ridiculous comment.

As if you can praise Torres for a team effort and 4 goals David Villa made, and critisize Van Persie for him and his entire team having a lesser match while the Russians played out of their skins.

He thinks winding people up is a suitable activity for a grown man on the net, then thinks we've been had if he manages to do so.

He can't, obviously.

Is that all you have?

Who put them in the semis? A Liverpool player? See? I can pull out irrelevant info too.

Fact is, Torres has less goals than Van Persie. Shit, the man has less goals than Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

If you're judging performances this tournament by what you believe you saw, then excellent. Torres has beat a couple of defenders...once, and tapped a goal in, besides setting ONE up. Well done, what a thriving tourney. Van Persie has scored two, both of which were better than Torres, and didn't even start all of his games.

They didn't play like that against France. Either way, it's not a weak strategy, just a strategy.

Fair to say they haven't been at their best, though.

Also, Torres = big game bottler.

It's a boring strategy.

I would still say Italy played weaker on the whole.

But the strategy is extremely boring as Floo said.

also annoying & very un- entertaining

Unfortunately England will probably be playing a similar strategy in the future with Capello, now that is sad. I´d prefer the old "long ball and go out on penalties against the Germans as usual" trick, than a modern Italian style Catenaccio.

Any one dare to predict tonights outcome, I´ll go for a 4:0 stuffing Germany winning, Turkey collecting a whole bunch of cards again.

Tonight I think Turkey would have struggled with a full team.. now with all the injurys and suspentions I can only see a Germany win. I am going with 3 - 0 Germany.

What do you mean by weaker, though? Less attacking? They won the World Cup playing like that. It's boring for many fans, and not as dynamically exciting, but it works. The score was 0-0. Spain were completely nullified, and Italy themselves had some chances. It's a boring thing to watch when a team plays deep, on the counter, but when Italy do it it is highly effective.

It's not entertaining for you. Some people enjoy the defensive strategic style (I don't, particularly).

England are as likely to master catenaccio as Brazilian-style attacking football. They're shit, and they'll be shit until the next wave of technical players comes through (from Arsenal).

Everything points to a German win, but you never know.

Arsenal!!! laughing laughing
Thats gotta be a wind up attempt from AC´s alter EgoHappy Dance

The problem is only English players can play for England!!

Apart from Theo Walcott and the odd player fro the youth team, Arsenal are way behind teams like West Ham, Crewe Alex etc when it comes to producing future players for England.

I heard Wengers after Andrei Arshavin, any truth in that?

It's possible that I just thought that Italy played worse because of the strategy, it just seemed like they had less chances...but I suppose that's normal the way they play.

Smileys: the last resort of the loser. When you can have nothing else to say, you post smileys.

Arsenal probably won't have any of their future brilliant players in the England squad, considering the brilliant English players can't get games now; Young, Agbonlahor, Walcott, Richards.

Arshavin won't come to Arsenal really. He is seemingly detemined on Spain and/or Barca, so I doubt Wenger will waste the time on chasing a wild goose.

England have promising young players though... but the problem is players like Beckham and James still get picked ahead of Bentley and Hart.

No they aren't, and that shows your ignorance on the subject.

Henri Lansbury, Rhys Murphy, Gavin Hoyte, Jack Wilshere, Mark Randall, Kyle Bartley, Kieran Gibbs. Add Theo to that.

Check back in future. West Ham? What, Noble and Sears?

Crewe? What is this, 1995?

Yeah, they operate like that. Does well for them usually, success-wise.

James is understandable, well, so is Beckham, but I agree with the sentiment.
