2/3s of the Judgements are actually in. I was going to cover for Goob myself but I've been insanely busy with work and my lil sis was involved in a car accident so I've been spending my free time with her and my Dad. I'll post what I have so far now.
Judging by volunteer would be suspect. A fair # of judges have been dependable, we're in the home stretch of the tourney, and if we actually did take volunteers, starscream (mb) would be judging every other week. Which I personally wouldn't abide, to say nothing of the random judges we might get otherwise. I trust a large majority of the forum, but having interest and sincerity doesn't ensure that a person has the knowledge to figure out a match reasonably. Appointing judges still seem to me to be the best way to handle things, past hiccups included.
P.S. not a knock on Bentley, who volunteered. He seems cool enough. I'm just against it in principle.

as long as they post legitimate reasons, i'm all for it. better than these huge delays. guess you're more cynical than i am. i wouldn't even care if starscream judged my match. besides, if a vote was really biased (which can happen just as easily with assigned judges, though it likley hasn't thus far in this event) it could be thrown out and delph could cast a vote. any problem with volunteers could be readily addressed and dealt with.
meh, just an idea. it seems there needs to be some alternatives considered though. this has become a very consistent problem.

that's $hitty man. hope everything is working out. my post wasn't meant to imply that YOU specifically post your vote. it was more a general observation and a concern that i think should be addressed in some manner. i'm sure you've gone the confirmation via pm route and that it has been less than successful. i'd love to hear some alternate suggestions from anyone.
Agreed. I just feel like there's other ways to handle it. I'll PM you. Maybe we can figure something out to help delph keep things moving, since it isn't his fault but there's only so much he can do.
dudes. just got a PM from goober. We may be saved.
Real life busy sh*t and all, so I don't hold it against goober (and hope no one else does), but I'm hoping to remind judges of their duties in coming weeks, and to have them inform us if there's a problem, so hopefully we can avoid this in the future.
take your time goob, btw. no one's in a hurry at this point.
He is actually knocking me out for when I say he was screwed.
I actually kind of agree that set judges is a better idea, I also think that more judges could be added to the current set if they need back up because of schedules or other problems. Since it concerns those who are playing they should be okay with the judges they get, I think they should have some hand in choosing them -I don't know unanimous votes or something-.
Right now, last Wednesday stood as the drafting deadline for week 8 (last week before the playoffs) meaning the deadline is more than a week before the battle that it is a deadline for. Delph let me know that next Wed. is the deadline for the playoffs, which would also be a week and a half before it is scheduled to begin. This is due to the bye, but is breaking with the regular schedule of having the drafting deadline the Wednesday before the battle that it is for.
I'd like to motion that the drafting deadline for playoffs be the Wednesday before they are scheduled to begin, not a week sooner.
Because I, and likely others, would rather not be sitting on our playoff teams for over a week, with time for our opponent to plan/think/etc. as well as someone possibly missing a deadline due to confusion.
get a life (instead of taking random shots at me). I volunteered because I know that I would actually read entire arguments and click every scan and come to a well-decided conclusion, plus I have no buddy-buddy in the tourney unlike some judges who are bffs with contestants (amazing how you have no prob with that). But know that I volunteered to help the tourney since I found this tourney quite interesting...not to gain anything personally. I personally could give less than 2 shits whether you value my opinion or not and I won't bother to volunteer in the future...so you don't have to worry about me being a judge anymore. I have a life outside of this board so I really don't need to be bashed for trying to help out.
Starscream and I's argument aside (it was my honest opinion, not an intent at bashing), Scoob and leo like my above proposal, and I see no reason not implement it to avoid confusion. Hopefully delph will concur.
We already did .... but then Leo switched them out at the last moment and we ended up with a bunch of rejects again (it's worked 60% of the time so far though)
