Fight Club is nothing like The Dark Knight, anyone saying so needs to watch the movie.

Agree with both points. Just wanted to add 'As Good as It Gets' for Nicholson.

P.S. Modest Mouse rocks.

[edit]Alpha Centauri You're right. I'm sure you weren't targetting me in particular but JUST as far as the 'laughing while getting your ass kicked' part is concerned...

Heh. Children of Men was pretty good. Superman Returns was pretty good. The Illusionist and The Departed, however, are the only two truly outstanding movies of that year (The Departed moreso than the Illusionist, for obvious reasons).

2008 looks like it's doing very good, however. I've seen a fairly large amount of movies this summer, and only one (Narnia) pretty much sucked. The Dark Knight and Wall-E, in particular, are two very, very good movies this year.

By the way, Meistergen. Since you didn't particularly like TDK, I'm just wondering... what's your favorite superhero movie?

Nah. Children of Men was good, but the Departed is an overall better movie. Though, an extremely anticlimatic ending and some boring moment in the opening prevent it from being a 10/10.

I liked The Departed, have it on DVD, great movie. I just feel that Children of Men is a better movie.

Reverse that, and it applies to me. Only I don't have a DvD of the Departed. Lol.

The Departed is still an awesome movie. The best of 2006,

Best of the year?! That's going a bit far. It's a decent film remake at best, of an excellent Asian film. Sorry Roland stick out tongue I also hated how he won an Oscar for Best Director for The Departed over a lot of other things he has made... terrible.

'The Departed' or not, it was about bloody time he [was Scorsese right?] won his FIRST ever Oscar for Best Director. One of the recent, and only recent, movies that he should really have won for imo was 'The Aviator'. Oh and there are everyone of his brilliant movies since the 70's. [ok, not EVERYone...]

Poor guy! sad

I'm not sure if you're asking me if he has a better movie than 'The Departed' or something else, but I'll assume you are. Sorry if I'm wrong.

Yeah, he has had a string of well-DIRECTED movies in just the past few years: [I might be wrong about the dir. in some of them but...

1. Catch Me if You Can
2. The Aviator
3. Blood Diamond [I believe that was him]
4. The Departed
5. Either 'Goodfellas', or 'Once Upon a Time in America' [or both] were directed by him...and I believe they're both incredibly well-directed.
6. Taxi Driver [awesome]
7. Raging Bull...De Niro...c'mon! smile
8. Casino

These are the only ones that're coming to mind right now. but I'm sure there're others by him that were great. 'The Departed' was pretty good, yeah, not the BEST movie of the year. Many of the ones I mentioned should have been though.

I'm not sure if that's what you were asking but oh well...smile

OH S#!t: I forgot 'The Last Temptation of Christ'. I KNOW that was him.

I feel ashamed to say that Blood Diamond was the only one I saw out of that list. no expression

Amazing movie, though. I didn't like it quite as much as the Departed, however. Still, it was good.

Thankfully, after a string of bad movie years, 2008 looks like it's doing good. Really, really good.

I don't get that rationale; saying a man should win an Oscar for a movie that maybe doesn't deserve it, simply because one that did, didn't get it.

Please tell me this isn't a top ten like list, with number 1 being the best.

Just fyi, Catch Me if You Can was Spielberg, Once Upon a Time in America was Sergio Leone, and Blood Diamond was also another director.

Forgot who asked, but the question of TDK's supposed "originality" of using the media as a weapon isn't unique. It's been done and redone, I just can't think of every movie that has it off the top of my head except 15 Minutes, which is an okay movie.
