But it contradicts the original clone wars cartoon, betrays Anakins character in the PT movies..
(Which'd matter little due to its EU ness.)

Anakin became a knight during the Clone Wars, some time before Episode 3. Him having a padawan, though silly, imo, does make sense from a Jedi Code kinda perspective.

What Bards said. Padawan is just fine. In fact, I think Yoda gave it to Anakin to "help him grow" because he was too selfish or something like that.

1. He says the EU is a parallel universe. That says nothing decisive about The Clone Wars movie/series.

2. Err, yes, but Anakin was a Knight by ROTS, so point 2 kinda means nothing, it not mattering what he was at the start of AOTC.

It is very difficult to objcect on continuity grounds to Anakin having a Padawan seeing as when Obi-Wan got one.

Mhm...Obi Wan was a mere knight when given Anakin as a padawan.

I still have no idea what Yoda was thinking not assigning Anakin to a more seasoned, experienced master.

Not only was he a knight, but he was barely a Knight when he received Anakin as a padawan. Him defeating a Sith lord (maul), was the driving force behind him being knighted ultimately.

So it's not all that uncommon.

And what about Anakin? Who should have taken him on as a padawan?

If Obi-Wan didn't do it, none of them would have. The Council really, REALLY did not want him to be a Jedi in the beginning.

Well, Yoda knew obviously that Anakin would be trained one way or the other, by Obi Wan or someone else. I think Yoda should have taken Anakin on personally, or Mace, or even Ki Adi Mundi.

I don't think that him defeating Maul was the driving force. Him basically being ready, and Qui Gon dying, were probably more so.

They changed their mind about that though, as soon as it was clear that Qui-Gon was correct about the Sith.

It was Yoda who maintained the objection. Which goes to show the Council gets a free vote.

They allowed it, but that doesn't mean they were happy about it. Even from the beginning Anakin was problematic, and everyone on the council could see that.

To be fair if he saw with spidey sense one arm of general grevious coming down on him he's not that quick to dodge the other three arms. Many more experienced in the force hence pre-cog abilitied Jedi knights fell to this trap and the dude wasn't even a force user just trained in sith lightsaber skills. Spidey has still been tagged by some stupidly slow fools in his time even with his spidey sense.

The jedi's skills at the time where not up to scratch with sith at the times skills, Even uber beyond belief EU NJO Luke would of had a hard time with some of the old sith masters.

Pretty much all of your post has to be thrown out as the vast majority of it is EU references. Seriously.

It is specified on-screen that the Council agreed with Obi-Wan about Anakin's training. They actively desired it.

Or maybe they were reluctant to do so but realized that if he was the chosen one it was a necessary step to take?

I do actually believe that that was mentioned somewhere in TPM. Something along the lines of "lightly we do not support this decision" or something along those lines. It's not like they were jumping for you...

No, that's not said. And regardless of the motive for wanting him trained, the point remains that they desired it. It was not being done because Obi-Wan insisted, or against orders, so saying they 'really, REALLY' did not want it was no longer so by the end of TPM.
