OK, lets say that Yoda and the council were adamant in their stance of not training Anakin. Would Obi Wan really have defied them by training him? Would Obi Wan, as a result, have been expelled from the order?

I don't think the latter. He would have been more Qui Gon Jinn-y, but not been expelled I'd assume.

Didn't Jin basically tell the council to eat shit and that he was going to train Anakin when they forbid training?

So I don't think the council is all controlling over a Jedi's actions.

Well, I took it as Jinn saying Obi Wan was ready for the trials, and that he would train Annie. But then Jinn told Annie "I'm not allowed to train you, so just watch me."

Well, I don't think we've seen that much about it in the movies...but I think Jedi do their stuff voluntarily, really. It's not a big corporation that controls all of their "employees". They might be assigned missions, but it's really their choice to take them.

As "Keepers of the peace", wouldn't they be obligated to accept whatever mission assigned to them? I can't see Yoda sitting back and being all accepting if a Jedi says "**** that, I don't feel like going to Hoth."
