I'd say the Wachikowski brothers are brilliant talented directors. They have (with pending viewing of revolutions) pulled off a spectacualr opera of action and philosophy. They care about there work and give everyhting they have to ensure the final product is there vision. Regaurdless of opinions to their final project i believe this is what makes great directors. This is why the great like Kubrick, hitchcock and tarentino are great. So i see the Wachikowski brothers being a lasting influence in hollywood for a long time to come.

alex proyas or darren aronolfsky , because unlike all the other directors mentioned before , they don't feel the need to cash in a movie every year or 2 years and the very few movies they do are absolutely incredible . spielberg does great movies but unfortunately also did jurassic park , lucas did the first star wars a new hope but also commited ep1 and 2
aronolfsky and proyas only did a few movies but they are creative and not as commercial as jurassic or ep1-2

ummm the original jurrasic park wasnt commercial. It was an achievment in a premise that had been tried over and over but failed miserably. Jurasic park had great creativity and even better entertainment. This was a groundbreaking movie aswell. The CGI Spielberg incoorperated into this movie was never tried to the limits it was pushed in Jurassic park. If he was being commercial he would have stick with stop motion. The second i totally agree was very commercial and horrible. Speilberg said the only thing that clenched his descion on directing it was that he wanted to do a T-rex rampage in a city before anyone else. im not joking. Thats what you call bad career choice even though it did very well in the box office. I dont think JP1 is his best work but it's deffaintly credible as being an incredible and gorgeous work of entertainment

Darren aronofsky is infact a great director. Although with only two movies done. there is much to be realized about his goals as a director. This is why he cant be considred one of the best. I believe he may live on to be the best though, great vision comes from that mind. However when you say he is not commercial just because he has only done two movies i believe to be void. I'm not going against you, im just commenting on your comment. Aronofsky was targeted and agreed to do the next batman movie. Studios changed there minds though. Now i think if aronofsky was going to avoid commercialism the last movie he'd agree to do would be a batman. There are i believe though Very great great things tocome from aronofsky. Alot of modern directors openly talk about being anti-hollywood. so those two arent alone when not wanting to be commercial and typical

I utterly disagree movie directors should be qualified on the quantity of their work but on the quality I'd rather see 4 very good films than 10-12 slightly amusing films

True, but I doubt QT will make any bad movies, he takes MORE THAN ENOUGH time in preparing them. He can afford to take his time and do his movies the way he wants them done, cause he usualy doesn't care about deadlines, producer opinions, heck QT probably doesn't even care about wether or not his fans like his movie

i doubt tarentino will ever make a bad movie. He cares to much about his movies. He wouldnt attempt a movie unless he knows it can be done properly. He also cares greatly on his fans opinions. He says he makes movies for the whole world, but the kinds he makes will always be up to his fans.

The fact that Stanley Kubrick hasn't been mentioned more is very very disturbing.
