It's a cloned thing. It's not a robot. I'm fairly certain that that was the reason Veidt "made" Bubastis- to experiment with genetics. It involved cloning the brain of a psychic and whatnot. It certainly wasn't a robot/ droid...
Also, it didn't explode. It released some kind of psychic shockwave. That's why all the buildings were left standing!

If I remember correctly the creature "exploded" (might also say "burst") because of a flaw in the teleportation system (a known flaw, part of Veidts plan), but because of the creatures psychic abilities it released a "psychic shockwave" in it's death throw, which was what killed everyone, it basicaly fried their brains.
Yes. That's right. I do think the psychic part was one of the novel's few weaknesses. It was so random. In such a realistic world (i.e: Manhattan was the only "metahuman"), psychics existing was a little strange. It didn't quite fit.
Anyway, unknowable, sadly this will be one film. It's supposed to be about 2 hours and 45 minutes long.

Dave Gibbons was in Toronto yesterday, promoting his behind-the-scenes book about the making of the comic: Watching The Watchmen. Which also ties in with the coming movie. Here's a quote from him from the Toronto Star, allaying the concern of fans:
"Don't be worried. Rest easy, I've seen a rough cut of the whole thing and I wasn't disappointed, and I really don't think most fans will be either."

To be fair, as much as I like Dave Gibbons, he hardly seems the type to openly admit that the film's a pile of shit. I'll make up my mind come March, though I now have strong misgivings.

If this is true, it was a bold move by the studio... and Snyder for having filmed such ending (the "Manhattan did it" ending).
The alternate ending must be more suitable for mainstream audiences (which is is to whom the movie is targeted anyway), but I don't think I'd tolerate an "squidless" ending...
...I'll still wait to see the movie to say whether it sucks or not

Well, as far as I am concerned (And I'd think every self-respecting Watchmen fan), he's f*cked up.
The only reason this was changed was to cater to the masses, so he can put his movie up his ass.
Changing Moore's work isn't acceptable or workable on any level. Naturally people have decided, as I said, that they'll love this film, and that won't change. Some even in this thread.
I think that removes all of Zack Snyder's credibility. He can't say he respect's Moore's work and wishes if he's going to make the movie AND change it.
Good God... this is worse than everyone wearing V masks and marching through the streets of London. Hell, this is worse than Inspector Abberline being an opium-addicted psychic...

Wow, I really disliked that trailer. The music was a bit shit, Manhattan's and Rorschach's voice bugged me a bit, the use of the word "Watchmen" was agony, some of those lines were awfully corny (the "Retribution" part and the "you mess with one of us..." bit, or whatever the hell Rorschach said- very clicheed)...
Oh, and Veidt was too German and looks much too like Chris O'Donnell as Robin for my liking.
There were some parts I liked, sure (well, um, Malin Akerman) but it really didn't convince me that I can cope with a squid-free ending...
