Gavrilo Princip was the murderer. He was part of a secretive Serbian dispatch (Serbia was a part of Bosnia Herzegovina back then, I think, WW I is not my specialty though) movement named the Black Hand.

but it does sound dodgy black hand? i mean id love to hear the origin of that

i think i remember reading that there was like some long complex plan of blowing his car up or something but in the end the guy just shot him

True. Don't know the specifics about the car-bomb thing though, as I said WW I is not my specialty.

Long story short though, they hid a bomb somewhere along the route the car was following, but it didn't go off so Princip decided to just shoot him. He was apprehended at the scene and executed as soon as WWI ended.
