The thing is though, I've made all of these changes in my life: quit drinking, stopped eating so much junk food, proactively worked on my mental health, cut down smoking, etc., and yet, life is still mostly just a cacophony of shit. Nothing makes it any better. Why not? And more importantly, why bother not doing all of those self-destructive things when my fate is so meaningless and doomed?
