Wow-Even though they only played 6 songs it was the best! I didn't hear anything by midnight last night from the idiot club, so I figured that I didn't win! I didn't check my e-mail today until 11 and there it was!!!! I hauled ass and left by noon to get to Hollywood from Moreno Valley-made it there before 1:30, and walked right in! Got a Tequila Collins and was about 12 feet from the stage. Good interview-at least most of it wasn't the same o, same o shit about the album and its meaning, etc. I was so excited that I could actually see them this time(unlike at the Uptown) Yeah, a lot of people didn't seem to into it-I jumped all around! Hung around afterwards with maybe 40 other people. Saw Mike leave in a Jeep Cherokee-he waved. Then Tre' came out and signed some cd's and whatever and took a few pics with fans, then zoomed out in his black Mercedes convertible. He was extremely HOT!!!!!! Finally Billie Joe came out and signed some things and took a few photos, then gave in and signed a few more things, the split in a big black transport van. He looked awesome, but kinda tired. It was an incredible high, especially after just missing out on tickets for Carson Daly and the show Thursday night. Also, my whole week has been total absolute shit(literally, as our Septic tank backed up Wed. night, and we had to dig to find it and get it pumped on Thursday) What a total ***** that whole experience was! This made up for it! Plus, it was nice going by myself without daughters or hubby-I embarrass them when it's about GREEN DAY!!!!!!! Thank you Idiot Club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!
1). They're coming out on Rockband before the end of the year
2). The Hot Tubs' performance will be shown on Carson Daly next Friday night,
3). They were interviewed for about 45 minutes then played 6 songs, it will all be edited so it sounds like it was talk-song-talk-song, etc., but it wasn't,
4). 21st CB, KYE, Murder Cuty, EJN, Static Age and Minority,
5). Interview wasn't super exciting, but ok,
6). Monkey head from Carson Daly is on tour with the boys. It has a remote control, moves its head up and down and side to side, opens and closes it's mouth and sings,
7). Tre gave djrosstar his sticks, I think because he's seen them 38 times,
8) During the last song I saw Mike look at me and go aha, I had been in front of him the whole time, he recognized my shirt, he walked up to me at the end and handed me the pick he used during the showm. Everyone was grabbing for it and he said it's for her put it in my hand and said nice shirt,
9) Billie told the story about how the FBHTs outed themselves by putting their name in a thread on the IC about their Grammy nomination just so people would search for it on the internet, he knew all about it in detail,
10). I want to thank my fellow Gridiots for being so cool both last night and today. I would never have made it up front and survived if so many of you hadn't been so friendly and great,
11). I'm exhausted.
12). Both Jasons and Jeff played with them although they weren't part of the interview. One of the few times I'm in front of Mike instead of Jason and Jason was smiling and animated, waving and having a great time. He did smile and nod at me a few times.
13). Kevin was standing outside after the show. He wouldn't tell me if they were recording a new Hot Tubs' s cd or not, but he was super nice as usual.
On Friday, June 5th, I arrived at the Henry Fonda (again) at 10am for KROQ’a Breakfast With Green Day. My other new best friend Diane (thank you for getting me in) and I waited on line until 1:30. As I entered the Fonda, I got the best spot you could possibly have … right on the barracade, directly in front of Billie Joe’s microphone. When Kevin and Bean first came out, they asked how many times we have seen Green Day, to which I proudly yelled ‘38.’ Little did I know, as soon as Green Day came out and they started their interview, Bean pointed to me and said ‘This guy has seen you 38 times,’ to which Tre replied ‘I know that guy!’ Billie Joe also made a funny comment, but it was impossible to hear what he said. (Listen to the entire interview Monday morning on KROQ to find out!) After a lengthy interview, Green Day took the stage to perform. I was so close that it was nearly impossible to hear the vocals, but it didn’t matter. Between the sound and the fact that the band was wearing regular clothes and not their ‘stage’ outfits, I felt like I was watching my friends during band practice. They performed ‘21st Century Breakdown,’ ‘Know Your Enemy,’ ‘Murder City,’ ‘East Jesus Nowhere,’ ‘The Static Age’ and ‘Minority’. At the end of the set, Tre Cool walked right up to me and gave me the drumsticks he had used. Billie Joe gave me a high-five as he left the stage. That was it. After four years of waiting (the last time I saw Green Day perform AS Green Day was October of 2005), I got the chance to see Green Day three days in a row … and after 16 years and 30+ Green Day shows, it never gets old.
I started a "One more song!" chant that died out sad.gif
Here goes nothing!
My dad and I left at 11:00 am to see Green Day at the Fonda Music Box for the KROQ Kevin and Bean Breakfast show.
We were about 40th in line when we got there. A tall black security guy kept walking back and forth past the line. My dad asked him some stupid questions, just to get a laugh out of it. My dad also asked how the show was last night, and the security guy said “When I first heard Green Day was performing, I thought it was gonna be some environmental shit. Like, people riding their bicycles, and driving Hybrids…. But it was actually a band!” Then he told us stories about how the Fonda is haunted, and there was a ghost who shut some doors on him once, and there were some autographed guitars in the room downstairs. It was weird, but funny!
At one point, I heard my dad yell, “Train!” So I looked up and saw Tre driving by in his convertible, with the top down, his shades on, and a huge grin on his face. There was also a bodyguard guy in the passenger seat. (I got the license plate #...) And I later figured out my dad actually yelled “Tre!”
Later, the KROQ people came down the line checking in all the people that won from them. When they got to us they said, KROQ or Idiot Club? And my dad said “We’re just a bunch of Idiots” It was funny LOL
The security people said absolutely NO phones or cameras, and to put them away in your cars. So I ran to the car real quick to do that.
So we finally started going in at… I can’t tell you the time cause I didn’t have my phone! And the security people patted down all the men before they went inside. They let me walk straight in, and they didn’t even ask us for our ID or our names! Anyone could have just walked right on in. So when we got inside the room, I ran down to the stage and got a good spot, 2 people back, from Mike’s mike (hahaha). My dad said he was going up to the balcony, but apparently they wouldn’t let anyone up there. So he just stayed in the back and watched.
We waited forever for the interview to start. Either Kevin or Bean said “We will start in a few minutes. I think Tre is shaving.” That was really random, lol. And the band equipment people came out to set everything up, and the drummer started playing Give Me Novacaine. As soon as he stopped, everyone started singing the guitar part “Dununununununa dununununununununa” It was cool! So Kevin and Bean just hung around on the stage until Green Day finally came out.
There were 5 chairs on the stage, for Kevin, Bean, Tre, Billie and Mike. They all sat down and the interview started. Mike walked out with these nerdy glasses on, but then they disappeared… They chose a few people to ask questions for Green Day (In line we all wrote a question on a note card, I asked about the Network) and some were pretty interesting. Green Day is coming out with a whole Green Day Rockband game. I want it! When they were talking about the Hot Tubs, I threw my arms into the air and yelled “WHOOOO!” And Tre saw me and laughed at me. They also talked about “the enemy” being Wal Mart LOL!
Kevin and Bean also asked the audience if they wanted to request an old song, so when people stopped yelling I screamed “One of My Lies!” And Mike heard me and saw me and said “One of My Lies?!” I was like “Yeah!” I was grinning so much it kinda hurt. Then Mike just laughed and nodded and was like “yeah!” It was so cool!
Sometime in the middle of the interview, they asked Billie a question, but he was like “I’m actually kind of confused right now, because I think there is a little kid out there that’s taller than me” (or “trying to say hi to me”). Later my dad told me that there was a little boy sitting on his dad’s shoulders.
And Tre still has the monkey head he took from the Carson Daly show! They put it on Jason’s piano and it was moving around and opening its mouth and showing it’s teeth! They said it has a remote to control it. So it was played with a lot during the interview.
One of the people also asked Green Day something about what songs they had covered. Billie started naming some, but he was stumped, so I yelled “A Quick One!” And he was like, “Oh yeah! We also did A Quick One” I can’t believe he actually heard me!
After the interview they left, and came out dressed in just normal clothes. Just a shirt and some jeans! Then they played 6 songs.
21st Century Breakdown was amazing! I love this song live! It’s so fun! And I looked at Jason White and gave him a huge smile, to which he smiled back.
Know Your Enemy also sounded great, and clapping to the beat was fun!
Murder City is still amazing live too!!! I love it I love it I love it I love it
East Jesus Nowhere was also fun! They all were! We had to sing “Don test me. Second guess me. Protest me. You. Will. Dissapearrrr” again just like on Carson.
During Static Age, Mike and I sang a whole verse at each other, and I probably looked insane. I was so happy! It was unreal!
Last was Minority, which was fantastic!!! We sang a bunch of “Aaaaayyyy ooohhhh”s and in the middle of the song, he made us do it for like a minute! He kept moving his hands up and down and wanted us to keep going. I got light headed, lol! Then he motioned a stop and we all stopped at once. It was sweet! And Billie got out his harmonica to play part of the song.
The crowd wasn’t really into it, which kind of sucked. But when the crowd had to sing some parts, it appeared they all knew the words!
Then they left, and Billie was air-fiving a bunch of people. I air-fived him back, but he didn’t see me haha. I started a “One more song!” chant that died out. I’m a failure. Lol. But I tried!
So when people started leaving, I stayed and leaned against the barricade. I just imaged what it must have been like the night before…. And before I left, I saw a setlist and asked for one. So the security guy gave me one smile.gif I was happy! And as we left and entered the parking lot, I found a $50 bill on the ground! The first $50 I’ve ever found! It was crazy.
What a great way to end the first day of summer vacation.
