It's mainly Latin, dammit. Just like French, Italian and Spanish. All those languages are descended from Latin! The similarities are endless. German has some influence but not near as much as Latin.

Dude french italian and spanish are latin rooted, our language is german rooted, or at least germanic rooted.

Historically, English originated from several dialects, now called Old English, which were brought to Great Britain by Anglo-Saxon settlers beginning in the 5th century.
