Essentially what I was getting at is that what you are is what you are at that moment in time. English being a West Germanic language in it's origin has no bearing on what it was today, since it's way too different to what it was then. it's like saying whatever language the West Germanic stuff originated from IS that language, it's not, because if it is we might as well skip west germanic and say English IS the language they evolved from. But then we could do that forever so it's pointless.

So basically in my conclusion, English is what it is now, not what it was, which was a Germanic (not German) based language.
