How that pans out remains to be seen. Nonetheless, there is still the 1 billion dollar cost of the clean up so far- and rising.

Wasn't the platform in US coastal water?

It was 50 miles out. That put it in what's called the "exclusive economic zone" (~200 miles) but not within territorial waters (~15 miles).

Mexico won't get invloved until their hand is forced. So far, only The South is affected. If the spill goes to Tamaulipas or Veracruz, then Mexico might be motivated...or just blame America.

I got a funny feeling this is going to really have a bad effect on the world in some way, especially when the hurricanes spread it about a bit.

I know itīs terrible even know for people and nature in the area of the gulf, but when you consider the ammount of oil comming out its really frightening.

Messing up one eco system can have a chain reaction and effect others.

Mmm I know it is scary to think about, and they have no way to stop it either so it's only going to keep growing.

That's going to take a lot of hay.

Hahaha, they might as well try it.

EDIT:

It seems to work remarkably well, I may just call in on that BP hotline and claim the idea for my own... ;]

Hay has been used before to clean up oil on a large scale before. I'm not sure if it's doable in the Gulf though.

The gulf spill is a lot bigger, for one.

-Clone, who knows, could take many decades. Oil does degrade from bacterial action and regular exposure to the sun, but yeah, it takes a while both for that, and even after that for the native wildlife to return.
