He first appeared in JLA 84 and made his last appearence in JLA 89.
Feats: Singlehandedly defeated all the White Martians that were sent to the Negative Zone (or was it called Phantom Zone?), crushed the JLA, and took over J'onn J'onz's mind/body. He could also burn entire cities with minimal effort without the help of Scorch.

Fernus, and it's not even close.

His mind raping abilities were so potent, John Stewarts brain had to be programmed with a long dead alien language given by the Guardians that Fernus wouldn't be able to understand. (And it was only good for a rescue mission, as his brain quickly rejected it.) And there's nothing Adam can do to really hurt him, as he instantly regenerated from any damage.

Enough pounding *could* take him down... but yea, I think it's probably more than even WW3 could dish out, being a Burning really supercharged him.
