Last night Kristinn Hrafnsson, a spokesman for WikiLeaks, confirmed it would continue publishing US diplomatic cables. In a statement he said: "This will not stifle WikiLeaks. The release of the US embassy cables – the biggest leak in history – will still continue. We will not be gagged, either by judicial action or corporate censorship."
Visa suspended the payment of donations to the website through its credit card.
I threw the second one in their because it made me laugh.
EDIT: The fourth charge accused Assange of having sex with a second woman, Miss W, on 17 August without a condom while she was asleep at her Stockholm home.

Sounds fair enough to me. I wonder what will become of Wikileaks image though if Assange is found guilty. I'm sure a nice big ol' smear campaign will be played out.

Funny thing is the papers don't realise the irony of 'anonymous' or that 'anonymous' is not any kind of real group. I miss when more message boards allowed posters to be anonymous.. The fun you could have posting in those days.... *wistful sigh*
earlier this week I was thinking about how humerous these "anonymous" guys are, and how it would be sad if they were anything other than 15 year olds with too much time on their hands
but if they start this type of activism, and organize a little bit more, they might create a real force that needs to be taken into account.
it remains to be seen if this stunt will cause them to incur the wrath of the US gov though. They have been fortunate enough to exist in a place where most people didn't know their organization existed, but now the economist is writing articles about them... If the authorities don't do something, it would be a mess.
I guess my big question is, how capable are the authorities going to be at tracking these guys down, and what type of retaliation is available to "anonymous" in terms of going after state aparatuses?
The anonymous meme and it's cyber attacks on things have gone on years, the funniest was either pedo war or the scientology shit. it's all about 'shits and giggles' and I quote to most who are 'anonymous' and DDoS attacks are relatively easy. It's not hard to create a 'botnet' the programs are freely available on the web.
Well, 'Anonymous' is actually a sort of weird political movement that springs up from time to time.
I'm sure you've all heard the old meme 'Scientology Kills' but strangely enough it was Anonymous that actually discovered the Scientology organisation literally kills people or leaves them for dead.
Anonymous can't really be stopped because it is just a large collection of people who sporadically do things, all while remaining well anonymous. I don't think there really can be any reprocussions handed their way. Do they intend to track the ip addresses of thousands of people?

there is potential here. If corporations can face significant attacks from a very loosly affiliated group of people, who, for all the "shits and giggles" you want to talk about, have a very clear political motivation here, there becomes a new way for citizens to actually fight back against them cowing to government pressure.
If it got more organized, it is at least arguable that they could be effective in activism of some type, especially, as it seems here, in terms of fighting for people's right to information.
Look it's simple 'We' are anonymous, 'we' are legion.... It's not about organisation it's about a collective zietgeist. Anonymous is us and in the moment. 'We the people' don't forgive or forget..... To paraphase anonymous and the US constitution.
