The lore present within the Elder Scrolls series, as well as the facts you can observe from the games themselves, create a more vast and developed RPG setting than any I can recall.

To that I agree, though I think going beyond that we have alot more options, The Witchers for instance, I would also think that Warcraft deserves to be mentioned in some way (even though I hate what they have done with the lore they still have a very developed world)

I'm not suprised considering Cyrodiil was supposedly to be a jungle rather than a forested area in IV. I guess it could be problems with the engine rendering something that big to fight.
That's true, Warcraft does have some detailed in-game lore. Probably rivaling TES. No one really gives a **** about it, of course, but it's there.
Still, there's the equivalent of several dozen novels worth of lore, either in poems, short stories, novelettes in numerous parts, quests, stories, etc. in TES. You really do have have to go straight into literature series to find something with as much story depth as they fit into the games alone.
So what's the best Oblivion game? I have Gamefly and shall be renting one of them. I have the GOTY edition of Oblivion added to my queue but if there's a better one I might switch.

I won't be able to get that for like 8 months after it comes out, such is the nature of Gamefly. So I guess I'll settle for second best?
