Disappointed in the film personally. Not saying it was a bad movie or anything, but it doesn't even touch TDK. And is my least favorite of the trilogy.
That being said the series is still the best superhero trilogy/series to date.
Gender: Male Location: Stuck In the future where Akus evil
I had gotten home and had been discussing the movie with friends when I heard about what happened and the first thing that I said was "well there goes costumes in movie theaters"
It's on par with The Dark Knight. It didn't effect me the same way because TDK was honestly much better than BB and I saw it in IMAX.
But the acting, villain, story, etc. are all atleast on par with TDK.
The only area I felt TDK was significantly better in were the action sequences.
How many third movies can you cite that are as good, if even approaching, as this one? Not many if any at all.
This was definitely Bale's best performance as Wayne/Batman, Caine did work here as did Gordon and JGL. Standout performances for Bane and Selina though. Catwoman definitely stole the show IMO.
All the people claiming Nolan dropped the ball are entitled to their opinion. But, the truth is, he sucessfully has put a conclusive end to one of the greatest trilogies of all time. Let's be honest, the only one better being The Godfather series.
I agree with some of the opinions on that page. They shouldn't delay it or cancel any showings. That's ridiculous and it will just add fuel to the fire. You can't justify this fuc#ers' actions by giving him the attention he craves. Only their parents can (and should) do that. Maybe instigate a moment of silence before each showing or something. Or at least every premier. But let this be another wake-up call to parents to talk to and take an interest in their kids.
Was not as good as the first and second of Nolan's Batman films. Still a great film. 7.5 out of 10. It was definitely better than Avengers (I know, I know: "they aren't comparable!!!"...too bad, I compared them).
Music, as always, was stellar.
One thing I could not help but notice was how convoluted the plot is. Sure, for people like us (almost every last person posting in this thread), it's not a problem. But we are NOT the rule. As I suspected, many people had no idea WTF was going on half the time or why the plot was proceeding as it was. That was a bad choice to do with the film. They should have made things a bit more simplistic. But, at this point, they could have done whatever they wanted and people would have seen it by the millions, anyway.
My absolute biggest complaint was the atrocious voice from Bane. Half the time, I could not understand ANYTHING he was saying. The plot and his "motivations" were easy enough for me to figure out with out having to hear any of his dialogue.
However, Bane needed subtitles. Plain and simple.
Also, Bane's voice came off as a slap-stick cartoon villain's voice, at some points.
[SPOILER - highlight to read]: I would have preferred that Batman got his back broken and he develop a "cure" for true paraplegia. Instead, we are to believe he maintains his "body" with the measly food and water in the hole.
Nice touch with the rope trick. The first time I saw the guy try to get out, I thought, "He's carrying quite a bit of an extra load with that thick rope dragging him down (yes, unintentional innuendo)." And then, the solution was to remove the rope. I felt vindicated. lol
As others have pointed out, the Talia twist was a bit forced. However, my brother-in-law demands that one must see the film a second time to appreciate how much of a "not a twist" it was. Meh.
Lastly, the end was borderline cliche. "Just fix the autopilot and, bam, autopilot will work!" *1.5 hours later* "Oh man! The plot point that was covered 1.5 hours ago should come into play! Or does it?!?!?! Dun dun duuuuunnn!" Oh, wait, it does. So why the careful edit that makes it look like Batman is in "The Bat" pretty much the entire trip?
Lastly, the moment when Talia dies, it was so silly and cheesy that several people laughed (including myself...it was facepalm worthy). It seemed out of place to have such a lame death scene.
Still, an enjoyable film. As far as entertainment and enjoyability (the real reason most people watch fictional movies), it was good. I most people see this film.
So far, I think that Prometheus is the best film, this year. It barely got a 9 from me, though. TDKR is still a very good film, though, and I can see why many will choose it as their favorite this year.
