Yeah that was pointless, because we heard it already from Bane.
Words of encouragement from his parents would've been better & a simple reminder to Bruce & us the audience of why he became Batman in the first place.
Maybe we could've seen the army about to demolish/explode a 2nd bridge to stop the locals from attempting to escape a 2nd time...& just before the order is given to demolish the bridge, The Bat comes hovering into scene, Bruce presses a button that flame throws the symbol onto the bridge.
The army backs away in fear of the symbol & hope is given to the locals...
Anyway, I don't remember as many glaringly obvious plot problems in Begins. And Batman seemed more like Batman in Begins than in TDK and TDKR...mostly because of the disappearing and fright psychology he used against the thugs in one scene (yes, one scene really did make that much of an impression on me).
Yeah the fright psychology in Begins was hardly present in TDKR...the sewer scene where Catwoman & Batman take out the thugs was very reminiscent & was a highlight for me.
I was 20 when I first saw Burton's Batman on the big screen & the opening sequence of Keaton/Batman grabbing the thug & saying,"I'm Batman." still sends shivers down my spine.
Words of encouragement from his parents would've been cliche to a movie that's filled with cliches already. Ra's vision was a great cameo which made it seem like Ra's was truly immortal, but in Nolan's realistic Batverse it was just Bruce's delusions. Bane told the story of the Ra's and the child. But Batman's dreamt up some how that Bane was the child of Ra's. Batman fooled himself.
They left these scenes out? There's a number of scenes in that movie that wasn't needed and yet they cut out crucial parts of the movie? Nolan is a great visionary and director - must've been drunk when he was editing this thing. This movie goes from good to great if those scenes were added.
lol! No, no...I am imagining what could be contained in the 30 minutes of rumored extra footage (that Bruceskywalker says is a false rumor). It is just mean being wishful and writing in plot for the major plotholes.
yeah I do believe it is a false rumor as does Batman on film.. Nolan does not believe in extended/director's cuts otherwise he would have made on for Batman Begins and most definitely for The Dark Knight..
so its very doubtful he would for The Dark Knight Rises
I've read through most of this discussion and this post from about page 27 has a powerful point.
Spoiler Alert:
Bruce Wayne not listening to Alfred giving him and the viewer good solid information.
after he'd done the detective work off-screen.
Sheesh.
And Yes. This movie sucked hard for Mythos.
TDK I saw three times in a row at the cinemas.
It got Bruce Wayne Perfectly.
This film; ugh.
I'm not sure what they were trying to do.
Seriously it was one thing after another. Batman not listening to alfred telling him right off the bat, about bane. As for the worlds greatest detective actually looking at, and touching the scar tissue on Miranda Tate's back and that great brain of his not firing fireworks... or a single bright spark at least.
Not good enough.
Like Jim Gordon says: "Son when you're a detective you don't believe in coincidences."
If batman isn't a detective what the hell is he? Michael Caine's character Alfred spells it out to him; Gotham needs your skills and your intelligence. But we see almost none of this in TDKR. What the hell is the point of writing/ directing a Goddamn Batman Movie if 99% of the time you're going to have him run around with his brain asleep. And when he does think, mostly thinking with his dick.
As for Catwoman.. Nolans characterisation left me cold. It took her long enough to reclaim her humanity.
Bane you can get: having absolutely no respect for anything as he's been to hell and back (and has the face, or whats left of it to prove it) AND he tells us virtually every chance he can get, in the first part of the film He is The LOS
Talia: Well written character. The plot twist is there, But you can definitely see why and how it is she'd turn out to be a monster.
But Catwoman has no reason to be killing, and stabbing and shooting and maiming people for lulz.
I can accept Bane and Talia and the Lifers in Blackgate's reasons for being homicidal maniacs.
But with catwoman the lack of exposition for her motivations in happily stealing from and casually ruining people financially
Grates
If you're going to have your moral champion (Wayne) essentially develop an instant liking for someone, not to bring them in or tip off Jim Gordon as a director/ screenwriter, you have got to establish for the audience
at least 1 pet the dog moment early on.
by the time we got to that scene with the apple and the kid and before that with the family picture lying smashed on the floor she picks up and speaks a couple of lines to the viewer
I was past caring for the character or her motivations.
Commissioner Jim Gordon
Officer/Dt Blake
Alfred Pennyworth
Lucius Fox
Special Effects
Ra's-mostly offscreen, Talia, Bane Storylines.
Talia is Ra's Al Ghul and Bane UBU (on steroids)
The car/ vehicle chases
The film is great when it shows rather than tells. like when Gordon & Blake are just shown doing good detective work and stakeouts.
Overall from start to finish its a good film.
With a little fine tuning it would have been a 8 or 9 out of 10 production.
In a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is reserved for films like The Godfather and 1 for films like Cloverfield
