Easily killed the lvl 21 dragon but at lvl 20 the lvl 23 is a bit much
Gonna get back to it later after upgrading a bit.
His constant armor regen annoying.
If I could have 2 reavers on my team I would mop the floor with him...

They should have maked the dragons (imo) scale with you. That way they could always present a challenge. And make them do additionel damage to barriers, or have the power to dispel it or....
Im playing on normal I changed Vivienne into an electric enchanter for this 1 fight since the dragon had fire resistence.
Got my focus up to lvl 2 equipped some fire resistance potions and beat him fairly easily.
My team:
Solas ice/rift mage
Vivienne fire/enchanter mage
Iron Bull 2 handed/reaver
Me electric/necromancer
I slept on Serra at first but her specialization class makes her a DPS monster. Upgrade and customize her bow to the dragon's weakness, give her decent armor. Sit back and just spam your abilities. Use Flask of Ice to start it off, just to start the tonic passive, forgot the name but I think it strengthens or lengthens the others if used right after another one. Then use either Lightning or Fire. Lightning slows down time which basically means free hits, Fire means free abilities with no cooldown or Stamina spent. That shot she has that makes her leap back out of danger shoots multiple arrows which will all do a considerable amount of damage each time you use it. Use her one ability that increases damage the farther away you are from the enemy. When your tonics are briefly on CD just sit back and pop shots at the Dragon's head.
My team was
Serra
Me as a DWR which really feels useless vs Dragons even with the Assassin tree
Vivienne as an Ice Enchanter since that gives her the most potential for tankiness
Blackwall as my unkillable tank.
I was a lazy mofo from the previous dragon I got a master dragon killer rune or whatever its called.
But didnt take my time to find the crafting materials for it.It adds +32 damage against dragons I imagine it would have been like 3 times easier if I would made 4 of them for every team member.
I think I wont need the rune now since that was the toughest dragon in the game....

So glad they don't. Getting your ass kicked by a dragon and then being forced to level up before taking them on once again is half the fun. It's a good sense of accomplishment.
Yes. I agree. The dragons are not required to fight against. It's meant to be a cool part of the game and it definitely is. They make a concerned effort to showcase them with scripted events so it wouldn't make sense them to be a piece of cake.

While I follow that line of logic, I think it's a shame that the Dragons turn into just another "monster" that you can roflolstomp you way through with no thought given to strategy or tactic. (except the first dragon)

I was doing a Two Handed warrior but rerolled to a sword and board tank/templar. I kinda enjoyed the two handed roll a bit more. May reroll back.
So I'm about 50 hours into this game now, I've gone into each of the zones at this point, somewhat near the end of the story, I believe.
It's a very good game. Though I have a few minor complaints.
A lot of the zones kinda feel very lifeless and empty. When I was in the Hinterlands I remember thinking it was very cool and full of life. Lot's of little villages and groups of NPC's to stumble on. But there were also signs of issues to come. Lots of quests gathered from notes from abandoned huts instead of NPC's in abandoned huts. I didn't mind at all because in that zone there was still a large number of spoken quests from NPC's, but in some of the later zones nearly all of the quests in those zones are from these notes strewn about. It's just strange from a developer like Bioware who is known for dialogue heavy games to rely on such a dry method of quest delivery. I'm sure it's due to the massive amount of content in the game, but personally I would trade some of the content if it meant the content that remained was a bit better and more dialogue heavy. I would have preferred fewer but more highly populated zones. The game could have done without one or two zones, I think. Three desert zones was unnecessary.
I also wish there was at least one large bustling city. The one that's there is small and little more than a marketplace with a few merchants. This game coulda really used its own version of The Citadel from the Mass Effect games. A central hub that really feels like a huge and important living space in the game world.
I feel like the put more emphasis on the amount of content in the game over the quality in direct response to the complaints about Dragon Age 2. They went a little overboard there. But overall this is a minor complaint as the game is still very good and immersive.
The characters are very good. Though the main villain has had a very small presence thus far, I'm hoping now that I'm closing in on the end of the game I'll see him a bit more.
I really like Iron Bull, Dorian, Varric and Josephine. I find it interesting and kinda fun to look at similarities between the characters in this game and the characters in the Mass Effect series. Varric definitely has a Garrus vibe to him, even saying the same thing in combat as Garrus did (possibly using the game actual voice clip that Garrus did) "That had to hurt!". Iron Bull is very much like Wrex. The way you end conversations with him is identical to the way you do with Wrex in ME 1 (So long, Wrex/Bull). Josephine reminds me a bit of Tali in that she's a bit more innocent and naive than some of the other characters, but still wiley and strong. Cassandra is very similar to Ashley. Leiliana is similar to Liara in how they've both grown throughout their series to become pretty badass after being pretty naive and innocent at the beginning. Cole reminds me a bit of Legion in that he's sorta foreign to everything and confused, and you have to teach him various things. Even your base of operations is essentially the normandy of medieval times. The warmap acts as the galaxy map, essentially. None of this is meant to be an attack on this game, the characters here are all different enough from the Mass Effect characters to stand on their own. I just find the similarities that are there to be interesting.
But yeah, very good game. If a bit bloated. Also very pretty. The environments look gorgeous.
I agree. It is a bit bloated. Regarding the side quests, the first Dragon Age nailed it perfectly. I also think the main missions were much more intriguing than Dragon Age 3.
I also agree with the desert zones. It didn't need the useless oasis zone at all. At least the zones have unique features within them. For ex, Western Approach had some cool sulpher areas and a neat canyon with a small little river while Hidden Wastes had a really cool mountain range that you can explore.
Maybe decrease the size of them a bit. I was surprise on how big the Western Approach, Wastes and Exalted Plains were.
But I will admit most of the zones had really cool areas within them that made it enjoyable to explore. I think my favourite was Exalted Plains. It looks ****ing awesome.
Maybe this game is a good example on where developers shouldn't always listen to consumers while creating a game...

I think they just listened a bit too much. I like the direction overall, I think they just went a tad overboard.
Exalted Plains is gorgeous, though, you're dead on, there. Most of the zones look great, I just wish there was a bit more going on. A lot of them feel pretty dead.
The one thing this game is doing is making me want to play the other two again. Well, Origins again, and DAII for the first time, I never played that.
Yeah, I think only Exalted Plains and Hinterlands are full of life. The desert sections can drag a fair bit.
I'm hoping Bioware has something up it's sleeve. I love Mass Effect and I'm hoping for more games in that universe (I think it's probably the best defined universe in gaming) and while I loved Dragon Age 3, I'm unsure how much they can add without feeling a sense of deja vu. We already had a blight for a game and fought a god, I don't know what else they can do to keep it fresh.
It would be amazing to see what new settings they can come up with. Hell, maybe another Stars Wars RPG!

I imagine the next DA game would be set up north in the Tevinter Imperium area. That would be interesting and would be akin to Mass Effect 2 taking place in the lawless Terminus systems.
I wouldn't hold your breath for another Star Wars game. The Old Republic is going to be their only Star Wars game for a while, I think.
