The plot is minimalistic for sure, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Transformers mtmte comic is a good example of this, with a nothing plot (Go into space and find the Knights of Cybertron.) but incredible character developments, making it infinitely better then it's plot heavy cousin series.
The plot in a Z movie is usually just fluff to justify the fights. The plot being all about Goku wanting to fight was a bit of self parody, I thought. And what we got in place of story, was a character driven show, with Bills and Whois mingling with the Z cast, coupled with some nice nostalgic and comedic moments, which I thought was pretty entertaining.
The fight, I'll give you, wasn't their best. But that's been true for every fight since Piccolo's and Ten's, which represent the very best fights in DB. Freeza's, Cell's, and Buu's have nothing on them.
The post god mode finale with the upgraded animation was a rush, though.

What DDM(and every other individual with half a brain and a little comprehension skills) has said is 100% correct. It was made abundantly clear that Bills>>>Goku, but Goku was still powerful enough for Bills to respect. Abundantly clear. You are cherry-picking a single comment Bills made, and removing it entirely from all other context surrounding it, just to try and make Goku look better than he really did. That, dear boy, quite literally DEFINES trolling... Should I report you for such..?

But I like the earlier era movies in general. Partly because Piccolo (And to a lesser extent, the humans) are still somewhat relevant.
For example, there's this:
Out of the later movies... Yeah, movie 8 is decent. I laughed my arse off the first time I saw Vegeta fight hulked out Broly, because the proportions and size difference are just ridiculous.

The Mecha Cooler movie / "The Return of Cooler" was my favorite. It had an awesome fight with the first Metal Cooler that required cleverness, teamwork, and technique to win, not just a powerup. Then the enemy turned out to have more, and they *lost!*. The final victory was kinda an asspull, but great fighting and great villain.
And really, "Metal Cooler adapts and fixes flaws. We decided that the flaw was.... there's only one of him!" was just so badass.
Agreed, and yeah. Piccolo being more relevant was one of the things I loved most about the 1st Cooler movie too. Was badass in the other one as well when he was fighting the Cyclopian guards along with Gohan and Krillen.
