I like it because is unpredictable. When I first saw a picture for the anime/manga I thought the guys with the swords were badass and they were killed giants left and right. That is not the case at all. 50 chapters in and we still have no real answers and when you get an answer they dropped a few more questions on you.

Ah you meant plural. Well I like Levi, Eren, Mikasa and Annie. I actually like all the characters. They all have their strengths and flaws. I think the only character I may have disliked for a few episodes was Armin, but he quickly manned up.
It does appear that each of the Human-Titans have a special ability:
1. Annie - Has the ability to create armor at will. Annie also knows a cry that can attract all titans to her to attack her. She also falls into a class I will refer to as "agility class."
2. Eren - Can command the titans. He also falls into the agility class.
3. Bertholdt - His Titan's abilities are obvious. He can form a Colossal Titan. He can also form and dissolve his titan form very quickly.
4. Reiner - Reiner's Titan form has the ability to form a mostly completely exoskeleton. He does not have as much agility as Annie or Eren. However, it was hinted at in chapter 47 or 48 that if he'd just lose the exoskeleton, he could move much faster. So it's possible that Annie, Reiner, and Eren all possess the same abilities but with Eren being the only one to be able to command the titans (Annie's cry seems like an ability any of them can learn).
5. Ymir - Ymir's titan form has extreme agility, sharpened teeth, sharpened finger and toenails. She is much smaller than the other human-titans, however.
6. Ape Titan - I am almost positive that this Titan is controlled by a human and is one of the first Titans. It's special abilities are agility and the ability to control Titan's like Eren. It also possess another ability: being able to turn people into Titans.
My theory is all of humanity is infected with biological warfare similar to the Walking Dead TV Show. They all possess the virus that can turn them into a titan. They just need a catalyst which the Ape Titan appears to have.
100 years ago, humanity used one of the versions of Titans to create their fortifications. I would assume that an Ape Titan or Eren-like titan commanded all of the colossal titans to form up and create the protective walls. This is part of the secret that the Cult and Human Leadership protect.
The big bad secret is that humans created titans to fight against each other and humans have been making use of Titans for ages. Bertholdt and Reiner attacked the Human Settlement as part of a military strategy to make the humans fall. There are two human factions: the ones that wish to remain as humans and the ones that want to convert everyone to Titans. The other group, the ones from "The Village" are the ones that think the remaining humans are extremely corrupt and not worth saving. Bertholdt and Reiner were taught this along with Annie. They are all soldiers in The Village's military. They were supposed to infiltrate the human settlement and destroy it.
However, all 3 of them, Annie, Bertholdt, and Reiner, came to love and appreciate humans. They saw them as more than just evil fanatics which is what they were indoctrinated to believe by military power from The Village.
There seems to be a third faction that exists out there and that faction belongs includes beings like the Ape Titan. Little is known about this faction but the military from The Village wishes to obtain the Ape Titan and Eren because they lack the ability to control the Titans from when humans weaponized Titans and started fighting each other over 100 years ago.
Eren's father comes into play because he figured out how to genetically modify and/or cure people of the Titan "disease." He bestowed Eren with the most powerful Titan ability with a gentic modification: the Titan Commanding Ability. Eren's father is the last person with the understanding of the technology from humans' former civilization. I believe he is currently working for the military of The Village.
I also think it's possible that Eren's father is curing Titans and allowing them to revert back to their human forms.
I am also sure that at least 80% of what I'm saying will end up being true.
I suggest you don't come into this thread unless you want things spoiled...or at least until you're caught up.
I didn't come into this thread after I became interested in the show/manga. Until I got caught up on the manga, I steered clear of this thread. There's just too many things that can get spoiled by visiting this thread.
Edit - Wait, do you think a "manga only" thread should exist? The show is quite a bit behind the manga.
