Belgium has been a team almost completely reliant on its bench.
They do nothing for the first half, and then in the second half they get their guys off the bench and suddenly they find a sense of purpose and resolve to score and make big plays.
If America can account for this, gain a lead early, and then shut down the Belgian substitutes as they shut down Ronaldo for most of the Portugal match, they have a good chance of knocking Belgium out.

Personally I think Iran was ok, they were playing a defensive game that some people can't tolerate, but they had a game plan... Unlike Honduras that was just clueless.
I realize now that France and Germany are likely to face off in quarters, so I'm looking forward to that matchup.
Seeing people like Muller and Rodriguez play, it makes you wonder if we might see less attention on powerful but moody and petulant players like Suarez, Pepe, and Balotelli, players who seem to be as much liabilities as they are assets.

I had always hoped that Netherlands would go through. They're usually one of my favourite teams, and I think that, on the whole, they're a better team than Mexico.
As much as I think Marquez is a dirty bastard, though, I wouldn't have given that as a penalty.
To be fair, they robbed the Netherlands of a legitimate penalty shot in the first half, so I see it as evening the scales.
So far two of the teams I don't like so much have been eliminated (Mexico, Uruguay), along with one team I do like (Chile). Pretty good so far. I'm neutral toward Brazil, Argentina, Switzerland, Algeria, Nigeria, and Costa Rica, I dislike Greece, and I like USA, Belgium, Colombia, France, Germany, and Netherlands.
I will be severely disappointed if the final doesn't feature Colombia, Germany, or Netherlands.

Greece deserved to lose. They were playing man up and had a few of the most beautiful opportunities of the entire tournament and let them slip through their fingers.
