I agree on Independence Day at least; that film was awful.

Beyond really wasn't much worse than Into Darkness imo, and that was no special movie itself.

I personally found Suicide Squad, and especially Independence Day Resurgence, to be far worse films than the 3rd Star Trek installment. I still had fun while watching Beyond. Every time I would start getting into Suicide Squad, something would happen that would just throw me off and make me think, "Why? Just why?". Not to mention 90% of the cast was very poorly used. And not even going to get into Resurgence. Discussing that pile of garbage isn't worth the time it would take to type it all out.

I liked Beyond much better than Into Darkness. Especially because it felt a bit more like Star Trek with a genuine dilemma and not a stew of all kinds of previously used Star Trek scenes and characters.

Kirk being dull and depressed the whole film didn't seem Star Trek at all to me. Not sure what they hoped to gain by ruining their most entertaining character.

As for the film being more Star Trek, it reminded me of one of those Next Gen films, just with superior action and effects.

I almost wonder if Kirk and his whiny depression is the reason that in the future you have the ships counselor right on the bridge.

Imagine how friggin awkward and uncomfortable it must have been for the crew if Kirk was making the opening log from the movie..within earshot of the crew.

Bones would be all "that shit was dark".

The big reveal to Krall's motives was both too late to give a dam about & also pretty ridiculous.

A dark skinned soldier bitter with the Federation for abolishing racism & war with other species instead of wiping them out.

I just found it absurd having a black character angry that racism was abolished by the Federation.

I was amazed that Idris Elba got so much screen time in the make-up. Seems like studios hate to cover up actual celebrity face.

I feel like Beyond should have been the final film in this series.

Surely it's no coincidence that the shittiest of the three films was the only one that JJ Abrams did not direct. I hope they have enough sense to make him the director of the next film. If he is busy doing Star Wars at the time then just wait until he is available.

Not necessarily a good idea. Apart from the fact that many fans complained he made the franchise less "Trek", it's also a bit much to expect the same Director to keep giving quality films in the same franchise.

Just looking at Into Darkness, a decent action flick, but most will agree it's inferior to Trek 2009.

This was supposed to be Trek for a new generation, and I think Abrams captured that far better than Justin Lin did.

I also found Into Darkness to be better than the first film. I felt it had more interesting villains and the amount of plot points that made no sense were far fewer in number.

Well yeah to be fair it was the right move given the films made for fans had killed the franchise for a long time.

Think most people prefer the first one. Either way I wouldn't count on the same guy to continuously make good sequels.

I enjoyed Suicide Squad more than Beyond. The new Trek was a pretty considerable dropoff from the previous two installments.

You never cared for Into Darkness and are an outright hater of Beyond reaching your TFA levels of animosity.

Beyond was better than Suicide Squad.

That being said I want the fourth addition to this Kelvin gold mine.
