The MCU is trying way too hard to push this character casual movie fans don't really know...and comic fans don't really like.
This movie hasn't even had and official trailer yet these rumors are already giving me the suspicion that Wanda, Thor, Dr.Strange, and even Thanos are going to have to get the shaft just to make Carol look good.
Well guess time will tell what will happen with this.
And has she earned it? Nope. Marvel is perfectly fine with Depowering Odin, Thor, Hulk, Thanos and practically everyone else, but Carol? Oh, she's a woman she has to be the best. GTFO. Like I said, I'm not really excited about this, the MCU has up until now depowered it's characters A LOT and it's worked...but now they're gonna throw Carol in there WAAAAAY closer to her comic counterpart in power? WTF.

It just feels so cheap? In the last inning, this character who is unpopular as shit is suddenly going to come in and get the spotlight? Let's be honest here, it's 100% a SJW grab. It's annoying. They ruined SW. Don't ruin Marvel Movies. Once the OG Avengers are gone, are any of us going to really give a shit about Marvel Movies? Personally, I won't aside from BP and Ant-Man. Watching the culmination with Thanos in the next movie, is more than I could have ever hoped for. If they ruin it with SJW bullshit...but Marvel isn't as clueless as SW. You can't force someone to be popular. It just doesn't work.
I'm going to start a separate entertainment company that doesn't have this SJW bullshit in 10 years. Everyone will be so sick of this culture war, it'll blow up.

That was the argument critics had with Marvel Studios making a movie about the Guardians Of The Galaxy, before the movie came out. There weren't part of a long running, bestselling comic series, the characters were considered B to C list, and how could anyone take that walking raccoon seriously on the big screen? Those were some of the complaints.
I complained about why they were proceeding with an Ant-Man movie. Never much cared about the character, and Hank Pym's appeal was way below Tony Stark and other scientist characters, to me.
But both times Marvel Studios knew what they were doing, putting both properties in the right scenarios to tell their stories, and using them to further expand the MCU in different directions (The greater galaxy, Thanos, the hunt for Infinity Stones, the Quantum realm & the Microverse, SHIELD in modern times with Peggy Carter & Howard Stark, etc.)
With Captain Marvel, we should be jumping further into the Kree Empire than ever before and seeing their ongoing cold war & open conflict with the Skrulls. That's the MCU expanding out in a new way, and why the film matters.

Especially since Odin removed Thor's mental blocks on his power, and with Stormbreaker he seems to be ascending to Skyfather level, which Odin anticipated.
