Am 100% serious about Doom Eternal though, its an awful game. The combat isn't fun, its frustration, the upgrade systems are overly complicated. It in no way feels like a Doom game.

Never let anyone else define you. Let them think what they want, let them define you in their narrow little minds while they suppress every last piece of them just to keep a friend that never liked them for themselves in the first place.
The upgrading wasn't anymore complicated than in Doom 2016. In fact it was better, especially the upgrades themselves. Can't think of a moment I used the charged burst for combat shotgun in 2016 for example. Using the shotgun's full auto in Eternal on the other hand...
Compared to 2016, there wasn't a single weapon mod or upgrade in this that felt useless or like an afterthought. They all had their perks and purposes for dealing with different enemies.
Anyway, you're free to your opinion. Just stop being a dick to everyone here that likes the game and we're good, honestly.
The enemies are built in Eternal to utilize weapon upgrades. For instance the sticky bombs from the shotgun is used to hurt the weapons on a mini spiderdemon.
Doom Eternal is great....and the music ****ing rocks.
