Think I remember seeing an article where the director confirmed that the Eternals were effectively immune to the snap.

If the Eternals weren't affected, it's hard for me to imagine the Celestials being affected. /shrug

...

They were immune because of their artificial nature.

Celestials are very real.

thumb up

The snap didn't kill the Eternals because they're synthetic/artificial in nature... Still quite "real", though.

Regardless, I'd just be very surprised if the Celestials fell under the umbrella of mortal/living beings that Thanos' snap targeted, as they're essentially giant space robots that are powered/sustained by raw energy. It's possible, I guess, but I'd just be surprised.

That depends on our interpretation what is real and what is not.

Perhaps the IG only affected ones with souls. Celestial birth process, as peculiar as it might be, is still a birth.

No, man. That's - no offense - carver's understanding of the subject. We don't know everything about Celestials. We wish it did.

What we do know is that Knowhere is a decapitated Celestial head and that there are miners who harvest its organic matter.

That makes them no more robotic than Iron Man.

lol.

As far as the conversation goes, I wonder how much in the next few years we're going to have to tell people to go watch Eternals when they don't know who the Celestials are.

In GotG concerning Knowhere, we learned that the Celestials are, at least in part, organic beings. The bit about how they're mining the severed head for "bone, brain tissue, spinal fluid."

edit: Never mind, Stilt mentioned

Also, as of now at least (still hasn't been retconned), MCU Ego counts a Celestial, too:

Guessing they'll probably celestial-ize Galactus too in the MCU, when he shows up. Makes it easier for the average MCU watcher to process.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ego and Knowhere are one and the same in the MCU, tbh.

That would be odd as Knowhere's dead in GotG and Ego's alive in GotG II.

Unless you're thinking Knowhere's essence/soul went on to become Ego the planet after his Celestial body was killed? Sure, possible, not seeing it though.

I might be remembering wrong, but my recollection was that one was a head, and one was a brain that woke up with no memory of where it had come from. I'm not saying it's likely they're the same, I just think it's possible enough that I wouldn't be surprised.

Yeah, Knowhere is a severed head with presumably a brain in there as they're harvesting "brain tissue" and Ego came into existence as a "flickering brain-like organism" millions of years ago.

So your theory could work, that part of Knowhere's mind f**ked off and became Ego after Knowhere died, just not seeing it personally. Not even sure if they're ever touching back on Ego in GotG 3 or other MCU films.

Not a fan of simplifying things like that, but I could see it happening.

Same with Eternity and Living Tribunal, who already were confirmed to exist in MCU.

With Ego, it's easy enough to explain that exception, considering the Celestial birth process in MCU. "Living Planet? Close enough".

Is that your own theory or shamelessly stolen from the web?

Did a quick google search and, considering the search results, it's surprisingly popular.

Don't think I like the idea, but it certainly could be one of the ways to make sense how Ego was different from the rest.

Maybe even Gunn himself will elaborate on it, seeing how he was the first one to show us a proper "space robot" Celestial in GotG vol. 1, when Collector was educating the protagonists about the Infinity Stones and Power Gem in particular.

It really depends on who's writing the Celestials going forward. If they care enough or like the idea etc.

It occurred to me all on my own while watching GOTG2, but I'm not surprised other people thought of it first. I just thought it was interesting that they took the time to have Kurt Russell imply that there could have been a "before" to him/it.

Do you think Eternals and Titanians will be treated as separate races?

I think they're already being treated as such, given Thanos's comments in Infinity War. They could retcon it, obviously, so who knows. It'll be interesting to see what Starfox will get up to with the Eternals he approached.

But doesn't [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Starfox say something like "Greetings, my fellow Eternals"? Or I don't remember it right?

It's a complicated matter, even in comics. Originally, they were different creatures. Then they were retconned to being one race, but there are still some differences between them. That's why there's no telling what they'll decide for MCU.
