The plot is just a complete aberration. Nearly everything looks like there's no coherent, complete plot at all, more like various individual themes created for the purpose of grand finale without anything to really tie it up. It kind of had to be a disaster from a storytelling perspective, though, it was meant to be. There was no coming back from TFA and TLJ. It's nearly impossible for me to list all the nonsense that fills the story. Honestly, TLJ was a movie that tied up and ended everything, even if in a horrible manner, and it was really clear in ROS. Nearly everything jumped out of nowhere. And honestly, while I could write a better story for ROS... I doubt it would really be a story that could be translated well to a movie. TLJ ended in a manner where Abrams was basically cornered. There was no getting out of it, and it is painfully visible that whole storytelling went to the cesspool. The entire plot of the movie existed for the purpose of having various "cool scenes" and a forced closure, where TLJ ended basically in one already. It's an utter disaster.
I can't deny it's a great visual spectacle, though. The fights, all the action scenes, have way better pacing than in TFA and TLJ, and the action scenes are really just fun to watch if you forget about the plot and just focus on nice stuff happening on the screen. The movie is like those fan videos with lightsaber duels of absolutely no concept and story, where you have people just doing cool lightsaber duel. Yeah, it's exactly like these videos if done professionally. You like to watch fan videos with lightsaber duels and blaster shootouts in costumes? Go ahead and try this movie. It's exactly like all those YouTube videos done by professional studio with millions of dollars of budget.
As far as plot, story, characters go, the only good thing is this movie puts Rose aside. Seriously, that's the only good thing in that department.
The acting is tremendous again, with the exception of Daisy Ridley who again did a 5/10 job. Honestly, Boyega played his part well, it's just character that sucks. Everything on the visual side is either good, awesome, or nearly perfect. John Williams, as always, composed a beautiful music, and the OST in itself is way better than the movie. Movie ruins John's music. Except the fights, when there's no dialogue, those scenes do not waste the perfect music.
The plot is garbage, everything is pointless. The conclusion shits on the Original Trilogy and makes everything regarding the story of Luke&Leia&Han worthless and pointless.
I went in with my expectations so low after TLJ with my only being knowledge that no movie could be THAT bad again. So i was pleasantly surprised. Honestly this wouldn't be a bad stand alone movie with a little polishing. Didn't need to be part of a trilogy really. Took a bit of suspension of disbelief, but if I thought of it as a kids movie first and foremost? Not too shabby. Best of the new trilogy, easily. Not worth rewatching as an adult, but I didn't want to leave the theatre early like I did TLJ. Disney's best Star Wars movie easily remains Rogue One, but this one is 2nd.
Disney's only good Star Wars movie remains Rogue One.

I was on the fence about R1 after the 1st viewing, even though I liked a few characters in it, my opinion of it grew greatly after the 2nd watch. I actually didn't mind Solo (if you take it as a movie that's kind of like Star Wars with a main protagonist who is kind of like Han Solo) so I might give that a 2nd watch now too.

Solo was okay, but ultimately also kind of pointless. Plus... he wasnt really a scoundrel. I guess they thought theyll take him that way in future films. But as a one off, kinda changes him.
Nah TROS the worst. Just cant forgive the poor ass storytelling of not justifying Palpatines Return.
I think I might put TFA above TLJ tbh. Cant forgive what TLJ did to Luke.
TFA wasnt unforgivable if the trilogy was going somewhere. Main Problem with it was it started us on a path of repeating the OT. But honestly looking back at the trilogy now, if Lukes lightsaber (in the end Saber fight) went flying to Leia instead of Rey, I would have lost my mind (in a good way).
And if they set up Finn at that point as a force user who needs training (instead of the final film), then I would have actually found that film pretty cool.
They could have (probably would have) done something Akin to that if TROS was planned before writing TFA.
Yeah the First Order and Resistance were not explained at all. But we all know they were there to imitate ANH.
And Rey was a Mary Sue, but that could have been explained in the sequels given there was a clear mystery behind her. Turns out we got explanations but really lousy ones.
I just feel copying ANH is a little more forgivable than what they did to Luke and how they didn't justify Palpatines return.
That said, the shit TFA set up just sent this trilogy on the wrong path IMO. And I had a bad feeling about it from day 1.
So really we are just discussing which film is less insulting. So I really don't feel the need to argue that because I don't care. The trilogy just sucked and story wise was a waste of time.
The trilogy was indeed a waste of time. They could have done ANYTHING in the star wars universe. Literally any story they wanted to tell about any character- and we got a poor copy of the original trilogy. It just wasnt a good story. The villian wasn't even consistent.
^ Now even if they ever moved the Episodic story forward actually rebuilding the Jedi Order, instead of it being Lukes Jedi Academy it would be Reys academy.
This shit (like TLJ) will pass a billion, an theyll be “look they were so good they all made a billion”, even though they are probably looking at a drop of like 40% from TFA to TROS.
Poor Solo took the baggage from TLJ just a few months earlier and flopped.
That said, Solo wasnt the most original idea. But man Rogue One was so damn good, and also made a Billion, how could they just stop them?
Let's give our money to Kathleen Kennedy for The Mandalorian - and make Rey's Academy a reality!
