I think the studio is probably afraid people will realize how much better it would have been with all the cut R-rated footage.

well anything is possible..... of course you know folks will complain that the film should r rated.. personally i could care less as i just want to see a good film

But it wasn't a good film precisely because of the PG-13 rating and inflated budget. The last act turned to shit.

Well this was another one where they weee on a limited budget for the first film. Given how much it made, the sequel is bound to have better/longer effects and action sequences.
