If this gets moved, or closed, or I get warned, I offer my humble apologies, but I think this is a cool discussion topic with a lot of overlap in terms of a good Versus thread:
If Marvel & DC decided to do another one-shot crossover story, which two characters and/or teams would you like to see this day and age? (If you wanna take it one step further, pick the writer or even the artist too!)
I asked the question in “Comic Book Questions & Discussion” but it got grossly overshadowed by this forum’s favorite attention theif: the Carver/DarkSaint bromance.
Senor Cage was the only one who answered and came up with some great ideas
I was also thinking about incorporating new (or newly popular) characters like maybe X-Force (Deadpool, Cable, Domino, etc) Vs. Suicide Squad (Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, etc)
Obviously having Hickman or Bendis or any other big post-Crossover Era writers taking one on would be dope too
I like the idea of the Green Lantern Corps going up against the Negative Zone, with Annihilus in his Hulk form leading an unstoppable mega armarda, but Constantine vs Stephen probably would never happen before a Dr. Strange vs Dr. Fate battle. I could sooner see Constantine having a crossover with Spawn before he ever did anything with Marvel. Spawn seems to share the same type of supernatural canon that Constantine is often involved in. I mean, you see how Marvel wrecked Angela, because Marvel doesn't delve too deeply into biblical canon like DC and Image does.
I'd personally like to see a Darkseid vs Thanos battle, that has them battle it out without any items of power, and escalating to the point that they both rival Eternity's power level, or greater fighting it out for dominance of reality.
Epic. Does Glads have a magic vulnerability like Supes or nah?
This one def gets a Most Creative. I would never think to pair these but AM’s experience w Swamp Thing would def prep him for an encounter w someone like Morlun.
If done properly, (e.g. allowing for many more pages than your typical one-shot so there's a balance of satisfying plot and two-page spreads) this could be one of the best concepts out there.
You are Jesus DS when in your solo incarnation, but when paired w/ Carver you're reverted to your original handle. Sort of like how Paul Simon only gets to be called "Paul Simon" as a solo, but when paired with Garfunkel they're just "Simon & Garfunkel"
Both those ideas Constantine putting Strange in Check attitude wise would hilarious written properly
Right? At this point they both have so much continuity-altering experience with both, they could come up with some really cool concepts for the "hows" of the crossover even occurring, as well as decent dialogue.
Somehow I think I've seen this one, and I think it ends with Supes holding Mjölnir and Cap's shield
Superman & Hulk have already "fought" in three different comics! They're all fun reads! I particularly like the Roger Stern crossover.
1. That GLC/NZ idea f*ckin rules
2. Though I agree that in terms of likelihood, Strange's first one-shot crossover would be with Fate, I still think if done right, a story with Constantine works just because over the years, Strange has slowly become somewhat more pervy/gritty, but nowhere near Constantine's level so that could make for some fun character building... DeMatteis could probably handle it.
3. I agree looking at it the way you are, Marvel's one true disadvantage (currently and generally speaking) against the other companies are their handling of biblical/Hellish stuff, but that can always be remedied by the proper writer. Garth Ennis comes to mind as he's written for both characters pretty well imo (but also agreed Marvel wrecked Angela)
4. Darkseid vs Thanos I mean this is the one right? They gotta do it one day.
5. Cap vs DS
6. Have you read either of the Batman/DD crossovers? They're both fun/simple reads, but DD has already faced off against Two-Face, Catwoman, and Scarecrow (at different times)!
It might not work no with the current incarnation of Sentry but definitely an earlier Sentry and Superman. I always thought that Sentry is his mentally unstable form interacting with Superman would be really interesting. It would be a struggle where Superman is trying to help Robert recover whilst trying to juggle the responsibilities of saving the planet. He can see the good in Robert (maybe they go on a few missions together).
It would be interesting because they are very much reflections of one another. Superman is what Sentry could have been without the debilitating illness. Clark would see that in him and the interaction surrounding that would be very interesting.
They wouldn't fight in the comic since there's no need to unless you want sales. Maybe one time where Robert is about to flip and Clark grabs him and says "calm down!" or some such thing.
---
Current Sentry and Superman would agian be interesting but it'd be a much more anatagonistic story that would defintiely culminate in a fight at the end.
It may be my imagination, but it feels like Marvel is preparing a Sentry vs Starbrand confrontation. Apparently, there's a new Starbrand, and they're evil, or something to that tune. It could be very interesting.
Assuming that the Universes are merging/neighbors and whatnot for the purpose of the crossover, here's 3 of them:
Thor/Wonder Woman
- Premise:
Loki/Circe manipulate Thor into Warrior Madness and have him destroy Themyscira.
----
Superman/Thanos
- Premise:
Thanos must take take one the being who lives forever and collapse the Metaverse https://imgur.com/a/3jU2AO8
Cameo: Death of the Endless
---
Galactus & Heralds/Guardians & GLC
- Premise:
Sinestro, receiving information from an 'shaded' figure through his ring, is told to use Parallax and influence Galactus into attacking OA. He successfully destroys it before anybody has a chance to get their bearings. The remaining corps split and try to track/hunt him down. Since the heralds [who most of are all alive, temporarily displaced in the DCU] have the power cosmic energy signature, too, many lanterns end up inadvertently tracking and fighting heralds.
They eventually team-up and after many casualties, Galactus ends up in the Source Wall.
At the end, it's revealed that Annihilus tricked Sinestro into depleting the rest for the Annihilation Wave to take over [original] - only upgraded: Superboy Prime and Void Sentry are also members.
Void Sentry kills Guy and John in front of Hal. Sinestro realizes that what he unleashed won't bring order to the Universe, and they team up against Void - but Annihilus intervenes and kills Sinestro. Hal then pulverizes Annihilus with a single blast. Heavily damaged Hal then looks up at Void, whose face is split in half from all the fighting, just hovering over him.
Switch to...
Superboy Prime kills all the heralds. Surfer is dying on the ground, his skin shattered and his board broken. He also looks up, as Prime's eyes go red.
Prime: "How easy you break...like tinfoil"
Suddenly, a green fist appears right in front of Surfer, holding...the Ultimate Nullifier.
Surfer, with hands that he can barely lift, grabs it.

When I came up with the question, I was definitely thinking Sentry, esp because he's another one who came up long after the crossover era. Your first idea actually makes sense, and makes me think of the Spawn/Batman crossovers, as Spawn had already started getting godlike by the time it was written, but that didn't stop them from using classic Spawn in the crossover
1. Thor/WW is long overdue!
2. Having Death of the Endless make a cameo is a dope, unexpected idea
3. Holy shitballs you done wrote up the whole crossover! Feels like it would be like a three-part event like "Annihilation Crisis." GL/SS came close with its inclusion of Parallax, Thanos, Cyborg Superman, and Terrax, as well as its prologue into "Marvel vs DC," but with everything you've included it def feels more like an event on its own
I've always wanted to see an X-Men crossover that made sense to me, but I can't think of a DC team (hero or villain) that's on the same-ish power level. Either the teams are too strong or too weak. I don't see one working with massive roster rejigging or PIS.
I know it's been done, but I would like to see a Batman v Punisher one, but a proper, r-rated one where the writer asks serious questions about their conflicting moralities. You don't even have to have one of them end up being right; you can raise good points on both sides.
I think the lineups of the X-men and Teen Titans could pretty easily be tweeked for them to work perfectly alongside one another. A decent villain could be tricky, but there's always the possibility of something like Apoc turning of TT's villains(Slade obviously being one) into his new horsemen and sending them after both teams.
