Human-animal hybrids to be developed in Japan

Human-animal hybrids to be developed in Japan after ban controversially lifted

Supporters say research could be vital first step towards growing organs that can then be transplanted into people in need

Human-animal hybrids are to be developed in embryo form in Japan after the government approved controversial stem-cell research.

Human cells will be grown in rat and mouse embryos, then brought to term in a surrogate animal, as part of experiments set to be carried out at the University of Tokyo.

Supporters say the work – led by renowned geneticist Hiromitsu Nakauchi – could be a vital first step towards eventually growing organs that can then be transplanted into people in need.

But opponents have raised concerns that scientists are playing God.

They worry the human cells could stray beyond the targeted organs into other areas of the animal, effectively creating a creature that is part animal, part person. -snip

Thoughts on this my fellow KMC denizens? Could this eventually lead to something similar to the film Splice (2009)...

Personally, I'm very confident that in secret both governments and large biotech and pharmaceutical companies have already spliced human and animal DNA together, creating god knows what.

This is literally the topic in Full Metal Alchemist where they use alchemy to create alchemy homunculi (multiple homunculus).

Pretty weird and cool stuff.

There was also that episode of south park where the one doctor was combining animals.

Anyways sooo...when do I get my bear-shark?

We've actually had human hybrid animals a while but never to this level. The most famous are the cows with the human insulin gene in them https://www.reuters.com/article/us-biotech-argentina-diabetes/argentine-cow-clones-to-produce-insulin-in-milk-idUSN1744610320070418

Man-Bear-Pig!

I'm placing an order in for a Griffin right away.

And some sort of chicken-cow for more efficient egg and milk sourcing.

So, Truman, this is who you found to save the planet

When I hear Japan is devolving human-animal hybrids this was not what I was expecting. Now I’m disappointed.

;_;

Oh I thought they were doing it the old way. A la SamZED.

Grasshopper women. I’m in.

Sugoi...

This is the reason why I will be launching my biotechnology start-up company in Japan and not the USA.

While the USA and other Western countries are held-back by 'bio-ethics' and limitations imposed by Abrahamic religions, Japan and China will move ahead with advancing humanity.

Good for Japan and I wish them the best of luck.

Good to know thell be creating a Quan prototype
OT. This I don't approve of OR something just feels off🧐
