The UK may be fine because the US has a much faster death reporting system that all medical institutions are required to follow so our death reporting is much closer to "real-time" than the often delayed NHS system. We need to adopt the NHS data system, however. Just not their practices for gathering data.
Spot on. The mortality rate has sharply dropped and we now know far more people have been exposed to the virus but show no symptoms or had very mild symptoms.
It will take many more weeks before we can truly assess the R0, MR, and get an accurate CFR. R0 is higher than originally thought, the MR is much lower than originally thought, and the CFR is much much lower than originally thought.
No real examples given of the deceptive practices.
Will definitely try and follow this.

Never let anyone else define you. Don't be a jerk just to be a jerk, but if you are expressing your true inner feelings and beliefs, or at least trying to express that inner child, and everyone gets pissed off about it, never NEVER apologize for it. Let them think what they want, let them define you in their narrow little minds while they suppress every last piece of them just to keep a friend that never liked them for themselves in the first place.
In the same vein, I'd like to see the CDC and the WHO charged for harmful misinformation. They spread false information about COVID-19 and offered no corrections when people over-blew the mortality rate. They caused panic and they have caused lives to be lost because of their actions.
or it may simply mean that social distancing and lockdowns have been effective. or maybe not.

Probably not since we saw this saturation point occurring about 2-3 weeks ago and the explosive exponential rates did not keep up.
If the quarantines and lockdowns were effective, we would have seen a sharp drop about 3 days ago with about 2 days prior to that reflecting a significant reduction. We saw no such thing in the previous 5 days.
I know you really really need to justify the lockdowns 'because Trump' but they were never necessary and were actually inappropriate.
"At least 1,224 deaths were reported in the United States Saturday -- a record for the most coronavirus deaths reported in a single day."

holy f*ck stop replying to me. I simply posted a factual statistic, not a debate point aimed at you, for you to try to dismiss

It seems unlikely that there is a large immunization in the general population, therefore measures to slow down the spread seem appropriate.
We'll hopefully soon get some more data about when widespread testing becomes feasible, I think some countries in Europe are already planning projects like that for the near future.
However even with the data we have now we can make some reasonable estimates how far the virus has spread asymptomatically, and the hope that a large percentage of the populace already had it, sadly, seems like wishful thinking.
I'm with DDM, the lockdowns has helped in cases like pneumonia, but COVID19, it was a bit extreme.....
Ah well, lives have been saved and we're in the waning period now. Attribute that to the lockdowns, it's not much of a bother to me, I'm just glad we're on the up.
