AOU wasnt great. But you still care for the characters, because the Avenger films were set up well from solo movies first, and because the interactions in AOU were Still done well.
Like Black Widow hitting on Bruce. Or Cap and Tony arguing about failing but failing together. And it all comes back in Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame.
Whilst with JL, no matter how great the action scenes, how violent or how dark, if you dont care for the characters it doesnt matter.
And then youre rushing into the Death and Revival of Superman (his revival done poorly btw), far too soon so none of it was earned. I mean you killed him in his second damn film. You really expect that to work like Tonys death in Endgame ? Not possible.
AOU was terrible. Not even worth taking time to explain how terrible it was. Captain Marvel? If you asked me to name three memorable things from that movie I couldn't . Good or bad things
The only MCU(I'm a fan) movies Id rate higher than Snyder JL
Winter Soldier(Easily Number 1 MCU movie)
Infinity War
That's probably it. Id put it on par with Avengers 1, Iron Man, Ragnarok
I honestly did not care for most of the characters.
In Zack’s version when the Amazons screamed we have no fear, or when both Jor-El and Jonathan were talking as Clark was ready to take flight, had more feeling than most of the MCU’s emotional scenes.
The only scene that bears that was the snap from Thanos, and Wanda killing Vision.
Well its all subjective of course. Im just explaining the what I see in AOU (and im guessing others do as well) that is missing in the Snyder DCEU films. Despite AOU being a pretty sub-par Avengers film.
When we add in the actual quality Avengers films on top, then its no surprise just how massively popular a series it is, whilst hardly anyone even turned up for the Opening Weekend of Justice League.
But it also has to do with the fact people were personally attacking Snyder for no reasons.
Let’s be honest, MCU can’t do no wrong with people. Look at one of the biggest plot holes in Spider-Man Far from Home, yet that movie is celebrated as one of the best movies in the MCU, and it made a lot of money.
Yeah I dont get the Snyder hate. Any screw ups in the DCEU were solely down to WB. They knew Snyders darker style/tone, yet they chose him to direct BvS and Justice League (hired him for a whole JL trilogy no less).
And they were the ones rushing to put out JL, whilst Snyder was actually the ones telling them to slow down and at least put out another solo film first (which ended up being Wonder Woman).
As for the MCU love, well its built up over the last 12/13 years. It didnt just appear out of nowhere. And to be fair the DCEU has had more than half that (7/8 years since MOS), to build to anything close to that.
Snyder's cut was terrible, it's not better than ANY Marvel movie. it introduces way too many characters. Remember when it was supposed to be released: Before Aquaman. It's too long. Lots of unnecessary stuff. Superman is still largely pointless, except as a Deus Ex Machina. Darksied was COMPLETELY pointless as were MMH and the Lantern. Four hours and STILL couldn't tell his whole story.
It's basically a deleted scenes reel that elevated a shit movie to something decent. Any higher praise is pure fanboyism. Probably better if you never saw the original, but if you did, this is been there done that.
I finally got to see this and surprisingly it was pretty solid. [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Cyborg and Flash got some well deserved backstory despite the interaction with Iris being pretty weird. The Superman return still felt awkward though I blame that more on WB than anything else.
Despite the runtime it felt less padded than Endgame which was a nice surprise. While its a nitpick I didn't really care for the Atlanteans being rather dull coming from the Aquaman movie where there was more technical marvels and vibrant colors.
Even if Synder may not have been the ideal pick for a Justice League film, his take on it doesn't deserve the excessive hate IMO.
