So are his supporters. That's the point. They don't believe anything the media say now but still regurgitate stuff the same media have been saying for decades like it's holy scripture.
Newsflash. They were lying back then too.

But like you said, he clarifies what he means by socialism which is a social democracy akin to Scandinavian countries.
Funny thing is though, they dont call U.K. a communist country. Even though we do all the crazy socialist stuff they whine would destroy Capitalism and break your economy. You know radical shit like permanent free healthcare for all, increasing the national minimum wage every year and temporarily nationalising wages during a global pandemic.
I don't even think they seriously point the scary "socialist" finger at the UK either. They usually use Venezuela (which had internal and external forces helping it fail on purpse) and/or "Scandinavian issues" as the boogeyman and
cautionary tales.
Moving much more towards socialism but still allowing private business and profit, and of course remaining a democracy.
Its only your media thats misleading making out youd be a communist society under people like him and AOC. You wouldnt.
You need to stop thinking in the literal definitions. Youre not 100% Capitalist as it is. Nor would you be a communist nation if you had Medicare for all, a higher minimum wage, and stopped the wars. Not even close.
Just because we all pay doesn't mean we all benefit equally.

Never let anyone else define you. Don't be a jerk just to be a jerk, but if you are expressing your true inner feelings and beliefs, or at least trying to express that inner child, and everyone gets pissed off about it, never NEVER apologize for it. Let them think what they want, let them define you in their narrow little minds while they suppress every last piece of them just to keep a friend that never liked them for themselves in the first place.
Ten people in a club give money to someone for a nursing service, but wait, 3 of them are super rich so pay more, but wait, 3 others are really poor so don't have to pay and get sick very often. Who's really benefitting here?
Hark, it's stopping the sick from infecting the rich! They put locks on their mansions.
Not the best example, but they're the general arguments

It’s true, generally the super wealthy benefit much more from the state than the poorer people, since they also befit from infrastructure at a much higher rate, since they benefit from the education of their employees, or like Bezos and the Waltons, since they benefit from their employees being on food stamps. But sometimes you have to accept a little unfairness for that for a generally better outcome.
With healthcare there’s a much clearer visible element of luck (it’s also there with wealth, but people don’t see it), like we don’t really know who will get cancer, we don’t know who will be in a traffic accident, so if we all pay in equally to our means, we get a better level of care for everyone in the end. And that doesn’t even go into the benefits the rich have from people not being as sick and living longer.
So you rather still pay taxes but not get anything back...even if some others get more or less.
You are basically saying...the dude from down the road gets a bit more stuff from the government than me so **** it all then. That's being incredibly selfish. No wonder why the US are in this position.

If I was American Id probably be against taxes too. Given how little you guys get back. If I was on Wall Street or a Defence Contractor there though, im sure Id love ordinary people paying their taxes.
