Congressional House Ethics investigators have obtained text messages showing that a few months after joining Congress, Reoublican Representative Matt Gaetz asked a young woman, who at the time had received payments for sex from Gaetz's then-close friend Joel Greenberg, to join him and others on a three-day trip to the Florida Keys in May 2017.
In the text messages, the then-freshman congressman appeared to message a woman, asking if she would fly on a private plane to the Florida Keys for a trip with Gaetz, three other women, and one other man. Gaetz said that the trip would feature "2 guys, 4 girls. A very high-quality adventurous group," according to the messages.
Woman Was Paid for Sex Parties with Gaetz, Given Drugs
When it was reported on Wednesday that the House Ethics Committee had acquired text messages between a young woman involved in the sex trafficking investigation and Republican Representative Matt Gaetz, a Gaetz spokesperson said that the congressman "does not know anything about the woman you're referencing."
That seems extraordinarily unlikely, considering that this woman told prosecutors in 2021 that she had sex with Gaetz at a drug-fueled party that she was paid to attend, according to the woman's attorney. This attorney said on Thursday that the woman, in fact, received payments in connection with multiple sex parties with people in Gaetz's circle.
"She told them that she and lots of girls were provided all kinds of controlled substances at these parties," the lawyer said, confirming a number of news reports about the gatherings.
Far-right congressman and Trump loyalist also investigated over alleged drug use and claims of other ethical breaches
A bipartisan Capitol Hill committee is investigating Matt Gaetz, the far-right Republican congressman and vocal Donald Trump supporter, over longstanding allegations of sexual misconduct, illicit drug use and other alleged ethical breaches, it said on Tuesday. -snip
How this deplorable isn't in prison, is embarrassing.
In recent weeks, House Ethics Committee investigators have conducted a string of interviews behind closed doors with numerous women who were witnesses in the years-long Justice Department sex trafficking investigation into Republican Representative Matt Gaetz.
In the interviews, some witnesses have been shown Venmo payments they received from Gaetz, and asked if those payments were for sexual activities.
One woman told the committee that a payment from Gaetz was for sex, while others have said they were paid to attend parties that Gaetz also attended that featured drugs and sex.
