I also watched The Eye,,,T' was also scary like ringu,,,especially in the part where an old man who has an eeewwww wound in the face was inside the elavator with the main lady character,,,,I thibk japanese were good in making scary movies,,,
Uh..'hehehe', I think you should have posted your last message with a spoiler tag. So that the movie wouldn't have been ruined for the people who haven't seen it yet.
I think The Ring has creepier looking scenes, but the original had more scarier scenes. For example: The cottage in The Ring looks way more creepier than the modern cottage in Ringu. The Ring has some [SPOILER - highlight to read]: missing scary scenes from Ringu; like the dead ex-husband appearing to show where the VHS copy is, and Sadako holding the lead females arm in one of the background revelation sequences.
I like both versions. But I think it's better to watch the Hollywood version first than the original. You get more substance after in the original.
I loved the movie. It wasn't really scary, more creepy. Other than the TCM remake that I saw recently, it's the scariest movie I've ever seen (you see how unexperienced I am?) I love the acting, the confusion it caused was administered perfectly, not too much, not too little.
Something interesting: After I saw the movie,I was exiting the theatre, and all the lights were off. Apparetly, the theatre closed while I was wtaching it. That freaked me out a bit
the ring was very scary. i have 2 agre. it still bothers me some time. when i am bout 2 sleep the t.v is right in front of me. u know once in a while i think of the video tape and it scares me. the tape itself was so scary. i mean they werent scary but just those strange images.
i havent seen RINGU is the language all japenese
I've been inspired to join this forum after watching The Ring (US remake). It was the scariest film I have ever seen. The fact it made no sense and the plot was pretty silly made it even more odd. It's not easy to describe, but it's very bleak. Bit like a nightmare - not so much a scary story - a strange, cold blast of unhappiness with no real reason for being. I'd like to see Ringu - but I'd also like to know more about Dark Waters - is this a new film?
Omni, you should check out The Ring forum on ezboard if you're interested in some deep discussion concerning either The Ring (U.S.) or Ringu (Japanese).
BTW, the American version of The Ring was the original Ringu and the Ringu sequel in one with faster pacing. The sequel to the American version (due out November 2004) will have nothing to do with the Japanese versions, taking the story in a completely new direction.

For me, the Ringu has a greater impact to me than the remake.
Even though the Japanese were very economical about their budget in making this movie it still turned out great because of their great sound effects which will make your hair curl.
I'm a great fan of asian horror movies. There's a new one called Ju-on: The Grudge and The Phone.

Most reviews I've read on the Internet favoured the Japanese version over the American. I watched both on DVD and I thought "The Ring" was better. I thought it created a darker, more suspense-filled mood than "Ringu". I also like the idea how they added the horses in "The Ring" and the "death video" is quite eerie.
