'Gladiator 2' Gets Top Scribe John Logan

Gladiator 2
DreamWorks Pictures and Universal Pictures are moving forward with a sequel to "Gladiator," hiring scribe John Logan to pen a sequel, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Logan was part of the original "Gladiator's" Oscar-nominated writing team with David Franzoni and William Nicholson. Although details of the plot are being kept under wraps, it reportedly will pick up 15 years after the end of the first installment, which saw the demise of several lead characters, including topliner Crowe.

The original film proved to be an awards champion in 2001, picking up trophies from nearly every major awards circle and landing 12 Oscar nominations and five wins, including best picture, sound, visual effects, costume design and lead actor for Crowe.

His credits include "The Time Machine" for DreamWorks, "The Last Samurai" for Warner Bros. Pictures and "Any Given Sunday," also for Warners.
