Halle Berry To 'Guide' Thomas Perrys Novel

The Guide
Halle Berry is in negotiations to star in "The Guide" for Paramount Pictures, reports Variety.

An adaptation of the Thomas Perry novel "Shadow Woman," "Guide" is part of a series known as the Jane Whitefield novels.

Berry would portray a woman who mixes Indian ancestors' wisdom with computer smarts to help troubled people disappear. She gives up the dangerous trade for her longtime boyfriend, but when a psychotic killer tracks her last client, she leaves the quiet married life to return to her work.

Cynthia Mort has rewritten a script originally penned by Jonathan Lemkin. Mort, a former writer for "Roseanne," is also penning the adaptation of "Valley of the Dolls" for director Betty Thomas and 20th Century Fox.

Other books in Perry's series include "Vanishing Act," "Dance for the Dead," "The Face-Changers" and "Blood Money."
