Billy Crystal and Aretha Franklin are in talks to join New Line's Hairspray, says Variety.

Crystal would play the role of Wilbur Turnblad, while Franklin would play R&B record shop owner Motormouth Maybelle.

John Travolta is thought to play leading lady Edna Turnblad. 'Hairspray' is expected to begin shooting in September.
