Kurosawa's Ikiru Gets A Remake

Ikiru
Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's 1952 classic "Ikiru," about a dying man's efforts to make a difference before he goes, is being remade at DreamWorks, reports Variety.

"Ikiru" is the third Kurosawa film to be set up as a remake, following Miramax/MGM's endeavor to retell "The Seven Samurai" and Disney's making a deal for Brazilian director Walter Salles to direct a redo of "High and Low."

In "Ikiru," a low-level bureaucrat learns he has terminal stomach cancer and leaves his job after 30 years to find the meaning of life while he still has time. After some decadent pursuits, the man becomes fixated on a campaign to build a park before he succumbs to his illness.
