Hip-hop star DMX is to produce and star in the thriller
Never Die Alone, according to
Variety.
DMX (aka Earl Simmons) will play a gangster whose life unfolds in flashback as a reporter probes events that led to his killing. David Arquette and Michael Ealy (
Barbershop) will also co-star.
The project, to be directed by Ernest Dickerson, is based on the 1974 book by cult writer Donald Goines, who penned 16 pulp novels between his release from prison in 1970 and his fatal shooting four years later. 'Never Die Alone' is his first book to reach the screen.
DMX has sold more than 12 million albums in the U.S. and appeared in the films 'Belly', 'Romeo Must Die' and 'Exit Wounds'. He can be next seen on the big screen with Jet Li in the action movie
Cradle 2 the Grave.
