'Rainbow Six' Battle Their Way To Big Screen

Frank Cappello has been hired by the Paramount to adapt the Tom Clancy novel "Rainbow Six," reports Variety.

His deal calls for a second script that will be developed by Alphaville partners Sean Daniel and Jim Jacks, and Cappello has a shot to direct it.

Clancy's Jack Ryan franchise continued its success this past summer with Ben Affleck in "The Sum of All Fears," but the author's shadowy CIA agent creation John Clark has been waiting years for his closeup.

Clark made small appearances in the form of Willem Dafoe in "Clear and Present Danger" and Liev Schreiber in "The Sum of All Fears," but Paramount has two books Clancy wrote specifically about the character.

The other besides "Rainbow Six" is "Without Remorse," a dark revenge tale that has been at the studio for years. Even though it was written long after, "Rainbow Six" might be an easier launching point for Clark.

In that book, the ex-Navy SEAL joins with several colleagues to leave the CIA and create an England-based multinational organization designed to battle terrorism.
