Robert De Niro will star in "Rule Number Three," a comedy-drama that has long been considered a strong star vehicle, reports Variety.
The Fox project concerns an arrogant firearms tycoon who attempts to bully a seemingly average guy; the latter turns out to be an accomplished assassin who decides to give the gun guy a serious lesson in humility. It was not clear which role De Niro would take.
"Rule Number Three" is likely to shoot next year.
The studio is in talks with Rob Bowman ("The X-Files Movie," "Reign of Fire") to direct the film, which was written by Robert Kuhn.
