Raymond De Felitta is set to direct the true story of Japanese-American gangster Montana Joe in
Street of Dreams, says Variety.
The film will explore the isolation and oppression of Japanese immigrants in the California valley farm communities during the Depression; the internment of Japanese Americans during the 1940s and their role in the U.S. military during WWII; and Japanese gambling culture.
Japan's Kinema Motion Pictures will finance the $25 million-$30 million English-language pic, to be shot in Los Angeles later this year.
